I want no part of him at 5M/yr, but if he could be had for a bargain contract on a short term, I would be a-ok with acquiring him.
It was probably debated at the time but how does Gagner get an assist on Edmonton's third goal? Whitney gets the goal after a giveaway by a Chicago player after Gagner last touched the puck.

I can hardly wait to see Gagner play for Team Canada again!

At the Spengler Cup.

The oilers have a long history of phantom points. Back in the 80s and it was somewhat common knowledge that a goal scored by the oilers, in edmonton, always had two assists.

Gretzky's record point streak was kept alive at one point on a play late in the game, where Gretzky shot the puck in and went for a change. The other team's goalie stopped the puck behind the net. Their defensemen picked up the puck and tried to go off the glass and out. Another oiler player picked off the attempted clear, passed to a third oiler who scored. Gretzky magically got the second assist and the point streak continued.

Having watched him very closely in junior, the kid was NHL good. The Oilers ruined him, like many before and since.

He should never have been thrown into the NHL at 18. They should have had him in junior working on the fundamentals.

He was good enough to tread water in the NHL at 18, but that doesn't mean he should have been.

I remember it being debated at the time.

Personally, I think the media made such a story of the 8 point night that they didn't want to take it away for him.

Interesting talking about that draft. The Washington pick before Gagner was Karl Alzner.

guy still played almost 600 NHL games. A respectable career.

... granted, many of those were Oiler roster by default games. But still!

I think a Gretzky helper or two were gifted to him courtesy of the Northlands off-ice officials.

Gagner headed to AHL and Gomez on unconditional waivers for release.

Quote:
Gagner has cleared waivers, per Renaud Lavoie of Montreal's TVA Sports reports.
Gagner was on Philly's books with a cap hit of $3.2 million, and according to Bill Meltzer of NHL.com he's bound for the AHL, where he'll play for the Phantoms. What a wild tailspin for a player that was selected with the sixth overall pick by the Oilers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Quote:
The St. Louis Blues placed forward Scott Gomez on unconditional waivers Wednesday in order to grant him his release.

Gomez, 36, had been placed on waivers Tuesday and cleared at noon ET Wednesday.

He had one goal and seven assists in 21 games but had been scratched in eight of the past 11. The Blues got forward Kyle Brodziak back in the lineup Tuesday against the Nashville Predators and forward Patrik Berglund is expected to return soon.

"When we went down with all those injuries [early in the season], he was good," coach Ken Hitchcock told the Blues website Tuesday. "It's not fair for him to come and play a role he's never played before. Hopefully somebody picks him up and he can play a top-six or top-nine role and have that support. With Brodziak back in, and obviously Berglund coming back in, he's a player that would just be waiting for injury and that could sometimes be a long wait."

lol I was going crazy about it at the time...Oiler fans were saying sour grapes but that was a total PHONY by the nhl pumping the tires of the something special Oilers

he literally got a point for turning over the puck
