I think what position you play has something to do with it. I wouldn't like to see Johnny playing defence. It always amazes me to see Brodie pull his slick moves against bigger forwards but size does help and Kylington could use some extra pounds.

Tod Button said in an interview last month that the Flames felt that Kylington made a lot of the defensive gaffes that people are on him about because he isn't confident with physicality.

10 lbs of muscle adds a lot of confidence to that department.

I noticed this in one of the highlight videos of the Stockton Heat. Kylington lost his stick and pursued his man to the goal mouth where he thumped him, stickless. Not the kind of play he would have made in pre-season.

I would agree with Button on that analysis. He's got so many tools in his toolkit, yet still makes defensive blunders. They make you scratch your head sometimes that a talented player like that could make those types of mistakes in his own end.

Him not being confident in his physicality definitely makes sense for the types of mistakes he makes. Remember, he's only 18 playing in the AHL. He has a long way to go, but I am certainly excited for his development.

I would be just as excited for Nakladal if he wasn't already 27. He looks really good. If Flames are able to get something for one of Engo/Wideman/Smid, I would feel confident having Nakladal called up to play out the season as the #6. Plus he's got a mothereffing canon of a shot.

Yup. There's a reason Russell is wearing down extra fast.
