He certainly wouldn't be the first early-twenties goaltender.

Definitely not (at this point).
The Flames simply aren't playing well enough defensively. Throwing Gillies in there and hoping for the best is beyond irresponsible (he has played 6 pro games).
The Flames need to worry about getting their defensive game in order.
And while they are doing that (and when they accomplish that), I would expect the goaltending will improve as well.
If it doesn't, make a trade. If there is no trade to be made, the season would already be totally lost at that point anyway.
There is just no sensible argument and scenario to justify rushing Gillies.

What about Kristers Gudlevskis? Vasilevsky is healthy now. Good size, healthy, has sound positioning. Could be something there.

I don't disagree, but I also don't see the harm in giving him a couple games if things continue as they are.
What if Gillies was in another organization and you could trade for him instead of Ward or the like? Would you do it and try him out?

We've allowed 50 goals in 12 games so far. 4 more goals than second worst Columbus.
Half of the western conference has allowed 25 or less in the same amount of games..
I wouldn't be opposed to any experiments at this point.

How is trying a promising young goaltender in our system any more or less of a panic move than trading assets for goalie that may or may not be any better than what we already have? Young goaltenders are uncommon but not unheard of, particularly if it's just a short term thing. Last season we had Ortio come up and play very well in a short span, but important span of games, and it was a boost to the team. Goalies came back from injury, Ortio got sent back down and we got a taste of what he could do. I don't see a problemw ith trying something similar with Gillies. I'm not talking about bringing in Mason McDonald, or a fresh pick into the fold. He's the same age or older than our current 2 or 3 top forwards and only slightly younger than arguably our best defenseman and a newly added (hopefully) franchise D. You're not going to destroy Gillies' career with a short term stint in the NHL while the other goalies are struggling. Even if he does have a tough go you send him back knowing he has work to do.

Cinderella story from 2014 playoffs. With price out I can't imagine he's available in the short term.

My son is a goalie; however, he is not eligible to be drafted until 2020

Wasn't saying we should get him, was just saying he might be one of the guys out there that may be available.
I like your option, provided the cost of acquisition is reasonable. I can't see us spending much to get another g, if at all. Have to trust our pro scouts and their opinions and that if they see a g out there that is better than what we have and doesn't require a major asset to acquire, they will relay that info to Treliving.

It won't improve without atleast average goaltending.

For the most part to say the goaltending so far has been sub-par would be an under-statememt but last night was a prime example of how average goaltending allows 4 goals on 23 shots. I cant remember which game it was but it was one from the road trip where we outshot the other team but the scoring chances were at least double in their favour.
IMO Our goaltending has been terrible, our defensive play has been just as bad.
Thank god Brodie is back. Hes a stud. Want to see him play with Hamilton to see if thry can get going together
Edit: its not all on the D either, forwards have to be better on their coverage in their own zone

What I mean by it won't improve without atleast average goaltending is that when you have a lack of confidence in your goalie you overthink and make more mistakes. A bad goalie can make a good defense look bad.
Ramo was average last night but they also looked like a team who didn't trust their goalie. I'm sure they feel a little better about him after last night and if that continues I think you'll see less mistakes. If the goaltending goes back to being horrible I don't think any changes they make to the defense will matter.
