It could just as easily have been management drawing the line in the sand and not willing to go any further. It would be nice if the media would do less speculating and more reporting.

$5.75 AAV Bitches!

It's been already reported that Hamilton can only sign a seven-year deal either the flames don't know the rules or Drager is just pulling crap out of his ass as usual.
Love the dollar amount though.

BOS offer to Hamilton was $5.5 AAV. New contract in CAL will be approx $5.75. Safe to say player wanted a fresh start and Flames are it.

Flames can thank the Boston media for the "Uppity, Loner" talk - probably saved the Flames a few million

I wouldn't underestimate how miserable being a 22 year old single millionaire might be if you have no one to hang out with.
Sitting at home on nights off bored when you could literally be living the life would probably drive everyone insane.

I could see that. I could also see the Bruins doing what the Bruins have been doing for years, getting offended a young player wants to negotiate and ships him out, bad mouthing him along the way.
It wouldn't surprise me if Sweeny could have signed Hamilton for the deal Treliving got him for but the Bruins seems appalled when a player wants to negotiate.

Might have just been Dreger heard Flames wanted max term and assumed it was 8.... In reality, Flames wanted 7, he wanted 5, they settle on 6
Either way, who cares... Calgary signed him long term for under 6 million. i'm pretty giddy right now

anything more would be a slap to Brodie's 5 year 4.65. Hamilton's is 1 M more but an extra year that Brodie has a chance to even up in year 6. Also sets the expectations for Monahan and Gaudreau next year.

Ya, I'm sure it would suck to be a 22 year old single millionaire
