I think Ovi fully deserved the Calder over Crosby that year, if your implying that vote was no good as well.

Draft position is irrelevant once you actually suit up in the NHL.

If I was allowed to vote I'd just pick the most random players.
Calder? Leon Draisaitl, Marcus Granlund and Ryan Spooner, in that order.

Ovechkin had the better rookie year. He was only the fourth rookie in history to score 50 goals. That's pretty much a lock for the Calder right there.

Just a reflection that when Iggy was robbed of the Hart back in the day it was no accident.
The NHL awards have become more and more just a result of NHL voters inner politics.

No, I just meant that it's not always the best player who wins it.
Andrew Raycroft won it FFS.

This host is so awkward. Who is he, and why is he hosting the NHL awards?

Not that surprised with Gaudreau.
All of the hype around Stone being "the best player in the league since the all star break" and with Ekblad being 2 points from Orr's record we're going to sway Eastern media.
Especially since both stories came out right around voting time.

Rob Riggle. Former correspondent on the Daily Show. Has been in several comedy movies (21 Jump Street, The Other Guys, etc.).
Actually doing an OK job, but his jokes are falling flat on the audience making it awkward over the TV.

Datsyuk can be nominated after missing 1/4 of the season, but not Giordano.
Given the voting logic so far, no way Jiri is close to this award.
