Anyone wanna ask them how the organization feels about some of the more fringe guys -Sieloff, Rafikov, Kulak, Culkin, Arnold, Agostino, Ramage,?

There were more questions asked. I threw out a question on the fact that 6 rookies have graduated, would it be possible to trade a veteran player or two for additional prospects and picks. Treliving replied that you need a buyer for that to happen and that the veterans on this team contributed a lot off the ice that doesn't get tracked by the score sheets, so it would really depend on what is on the table and what the playing field is.

I'm a big Bennett fan, happy that we got a 2nd for Sven, and agree that gaining 1lbs is clearly a stalling of physical 'development' for a young kid, but I just don't think you can fairly compare weight gain between someone playing a full season vs. someone post-surgery, whose job for months was to live in the gym and train. Sven isn't on our team anymore, hope this is the last time they bring up his name.

Anyways, good to hear those comments. How refreshing is it that we complain that a STH meeting is "boring". Many other teams would KILL to simply have calm, collected, and thoughtful management.

Yeah, there's that but I guess it comes down to personal opinion but I thought Giordano was improving every year and he got a bum deal from the Flames but on the other hand we did get to retain his rights whereas he would have needed to go through waivers if he re-signed with the Flames. Speaking of improving Gio also improved his game in Russia whereas if Sven went to Europe I could see him stagnating while insisting on playing his game.

Was at the session tonight. A couple things I can remember:

In terms of the stadium, King was up in Edmonton last Wednesday talking to the new regime. Said he wasn't asking for money just need everyone on the same page as it is an ambitious project. Pretty much said that the new government did slow things down as they needed to bring them up to speed once they were settled. Pretty much hinted that if the PC won then at these sessions they would be talking about a stadium announcement. I know people hate hearing it, but it sounds like it is close.

A bunch of questions/comments around Edmonton. Burke pretty much said the circus is leaving town and that he respects the people now in charge (will most definitely hate them once the season starts). Said the new brain trust will do more to move them forward then winning the McDavid sweepstakes.

Treliving mentioned that they more than likely will see Hunter Smith turn Pro. Called him a project a number of times but like the growth so far. Said he needs to play against adults so the pro game is better suited for his development.

King hinted that something is in the works to honor Fleury and some other alumni.

They pretty much repeated the stuff from the afternoon session regarding the draft.

Treliving did mention that he thinks it is asinine that teams would put significant stock into the combine interviews. The players are so prepped that what goes on there shouldn't have a huge impact on the draft board. A lot of the players have been viewed over 75 times over the course of three years that the combine interview process just ties up loose ends. Used the analogy of nine or ten chapters have been written and by time they get to the combine they are going back to touch things up. You wouldn't throw out the ten chapters based on the combine itself.

One thing that I did find interesting is when Burke has talking about the Stockton team he mentioned Klimchuk, Smith, Morrison, Gillies, and Bennett. Naming Bennett surprised me.

That is pretty much all I can remember off the top of my head.

He likely misspoke. Bennett can't be assigned to the AHL next season.

Yeah that is what I thought. I think the jist of it was players turning pro that are coming up and like you said just tagged Bennett on the end.

speaking of Bennett and the combine, Treliving mentioned that they of course knew Bennett came in with the bum shoulder and were ecstatic he didn't do a pull up. Joked he hoped his arm would fall off to guarantee him dropping to the flames.

I am a little skeptical of the Sven comments. I really do think the Flames are hedging their bets big with this one in case that Sven shows some great growth and becomes an NHL player. He is still a young kid with great hands and needs to learn the defensive game on a consistent basis.

The truth is the Flames and the Sven camp held the same amount of cards here. If Sven didn't want to sign and from all indications he wasn't in the Flames plans then the player can walk and sign with another NHL team. I doubt that a team wouldn't have taken a chance on a 1 year 2 way deal with a former 1st rounder and junior hockey sniper.

Best to Sven in the future and best of luck to the Flames on the 2nd round pick.

Sven is a RFA, he couldn't just sign with another NHL team.

I admire the fan who asked Burke about the Flames being doomed due to a poor Corsi. I was hoping for a barn fight.

The only tidbit that I noticed that hasn't been mentioned yet is that the new building will have the same number of seats as the 'Dome. I probably missed it in the past, but that was the first confirmation I'd heard of that.

Thanks for the notes everyone.

It's amazing how tight-lipped these STH meetings are when Feaster and Weisbrod aren't at the table.

Burke and Treliving are pro's.... you can hear it in the way they talk.

Feaster and Weisbrod gave you good inside news, but were a little bit more like gossipy high school girls.

Source? I really would've expected us to downgrade us in size if we converted to a modern facility. Great news though

That is good news. I was afraid they'd reduce it to 18,000 like most rinks.

I was hoping for 20,000+, but 19k+ is still OK.

19000+ seats as well as many luxury boxes I would assume. Should be a good size when its all said and done.

Direct quote from KK when asked about ticket prices and the new building "we will have the same number of seats"

Strictly my speculation, suite seats go up at the expense of less bleeds leaving the total count about the same. But I was also quite surprised to hear it as the direction in new buildings seems to be more towards 18k or so.
