How'd your fav squad do?

Feedback appreciated and welcomed. I only ask that if you criticize a pick, offer an alternative and rationale.

Thanks! |
I got one mega mock draft in me, to come in the week leading up to the draft.

Any further comments from the 1st four picks of the Flames in this two round mock?

I like it. If thats how the Flames 2nd round goes, there wont be any complaints from me.

			I didn't realize we have 52 and 53, that's pretty cool.
I know essentially nothing about the kids available in this draft outside of the top 5 but suddenly have a lot of faith in our drafting. With so many picks in the top 90, I hope we can look back at this draft and laugh maniacally.

Would have preferred Svechnikov in the 1st and Spencer and Pilon with 51 and 52. Love the Larson pick, and would go nuts if that happens.

Overall not too bad a draft.

It's not quite as good as 2003, but it is the closest since.

deep draft and the islanders aren't the only team that will be sitting on their hands.

the blues have a pretty thin draft day too.

56th OA
94th OA
116th OA
127th OA
146th OA
176th OA

the hawks don't pick till 54th
that'll be after the flames have picked 4 times already.

the preds don't pick till 55th OA
that'll be after the flames have picked 4 times already, and nashville is a small market team that puts heavy emphasis on growth through the draft.

the pens only have a their own 2nd 5th 6th and 7th picks
the second rounder being 46th OA

the canucks pick 23rd, but then don't pick till 114th

the rangers don't pick till 61st OA then 89th 119th 179th and 209th

the devils at 36th OA might be willing to trade down for 52nd and 53rd as they will likely be wanting to stock the shelves as quickly as possible.
the flames would pick 36th and 45th and the devils would pick 41st 52nd and 53rd.

the blue jackets may also be a willing partner if the flames get tempted by a falling prospect in the early second round. they have 34th 38th and 58th

lots of picks, lots of cap space, and lots of dance partners. stuff is gonna go down on draft day.

Looking at the top echelon of RWs I see Marner as the one definitely standing out. But what about Rantanen, Meier, Svechnikov, Guryanov, Konecny and Boeser - is these guys ceiling close? Is it just a risk factor/probability separating them?
Scout reports seem to suggest they are all darn close...

Rantanen and Meier I'd say are a cut above the others. Guryanov is a wildcard due to Russian flight risk. Then Svechnikov/Konecny and then Boeser.

I'd also add Crouse and Connor with Rantanen and Meier, but those guys are all pipe dreams.

How about making some kind of trade to grab another 1st rounder and grabbing Svechnikov and Guryanov so they can have a bromantic russian trio with Rafikov and be best buds and play in Calgary to stay together.
 [/dream]

I like Svechnikov. I rate him just below Meier/Zacha. I would be OK with him, but I'm set on taking Carlo or Konecny. BPA with the highest ceiling. I think all the other players I rate above them will be gone. We will be looking hard at Merkley and Konecny. I'd take Konecny he is a tougher taller Gaudreau. Merkley has the playmaking, size and vision on him though.

I am shocked at the fact we may have a chance to get Konecny in the mid 1st round - if you told me that after his rookie season in the OHL i wouldnt believe it. Another 67s captain, lets do it!

I'm convinced the Flames go with a forward at 15. Too many good goal scoring options in that range.

Then you look at the 2nd round and there'll be plenty of solid D options compared to some riskier forwards.

If i were to predict the first 2 rounds it'd look like this

15. FW
45. D
52. FW
53. D

Then in the 3rd i feel like you can get some really decent D prospects who may carry a bit of baggage.

Perhaps another precautionary tale for Russian factor. According to McKenzie, Grigorenko might go back to Russia rather than try and compete for a spot on Buffalo's roster next season.http://www.tsn.ca/mckenzie-on-free-a...-more-1.307528

		| The Buffalo Sabres are waiting to see if there's validity to the speculation that soon-to-be restricted free agent Mikhail Grigorenko is signing a contract in the KHL.
Grigorenko, 21, is coming out of his three-year, entry-level contract with the Sabres, having played 25 NHL games this past season and 68 over the last three seasons. The Sabres initially indicated to the player at season's end they wanted to re-sign him but, for now anyway, were not prepared to give him a one-way contract.

There has since been talk Grigorenko will opt to return home to Russia and take a more lucrative offer in the KHL rather than contest for a spot on the Sabres on a two-way contract next season.

I just don't see how the Leafs can pass up Marner.
Add to that all the rumours that the Leafs love him. The only question is who Arizona takes.

I don't think taking Provorov at 4 would be that big of a mistake, but New Jersey would be so lucky if Marner falls to 6

The Flames have only drafted one Russian in recent memory and it was in the 7th round.

Has Treviling made any comments that have people thinking he might be willing to take Russians high in the draft?

He wanted to sign Panarin and was part of the management team that drafter Tikhonov in the first round. Outside of that I don't think so
