Would anyone be interested in Jeremy Roy? If he were an inch or two taller I think people would be drooling over his smooth skating and offence from the blue line. He would fit right in on Bob Hartley's defense corps.

Nick Merkley reminds me a bit of Steve Yzerman, it would be drastic if Calgary missed out on the hometown kid.

Merkley has speed but he doesn't look like he'll be capable of scoring a lot of goals in the NHL. He had a lot of points but how much does that have to do with his linemates? If the Flames had a late 1st rounder I would be ok with drafting him but I would pass at #15.

Merkleys best stretch of the season this past year was the first part before Draisaitl even joined the team, so Im not concerned about that in the slightest. I'd also wager that Chartiers 40+ goals came because of Merkley and not Merkleys assists coming because of Chartier. He may be under 6'0 (5'11) but at 190lbs at 17 yrs old he will play at 200+ lbs in the NHL.
I would be perfectly happy with the Flames going with Merkley in this draft.

He most definitely would. He's the defenseman I want management to go after if we do pick a defenseman.

Gaudreau on the top line and Merkley on the second line would make our top 6 lethal.
Merkley and Roy are definitely my 2 options on who I want putting on a Calgary sweater.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Poirier
Hudler - Bennett - Merkley
(RW) goal scorer Brock Boeser would be fine too)

I liked Merkleys drive in the mem cup but that is all I've seen of him.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I've seen Kylington compared to Yandle (today's TSN rankings) and Erik Karlsson. Plus we could nickname him Buzz. So many positives.

No thanks. Do not want Kylington at 15th overall.

Considering the emphasis the Flames place on character, I think they'd have to be in love with Kylington's game to draft him at 15.

How is Beauvillier ranked so low?
40 goals, and 90 points as a 17 year old.
Led his team in scoring by 30 points.
Could be a steal at 45.
With 3 second rounders the Flames should take a flyer on one of him or Connor Garland.

I was going to start a new thread for people to do mocks for the top 15, but there are enough 2015 Draft threads.
Here's mine:
1. Edmonton - McDavid
2. Buffalo - Eichel
3. Arizona - Strome
4. Toronto - Marner
5. Carolina - Hanifin
6. New Jersey - Zacha
7. Philadelphia - Provorov
8. Columbus - Werenski
9. San Jose - Barzal
10. Colorado - Rantanen
11. Florida - Crouse
12. Dallas - Connor
13. Los Angeles - Meier
14. Boston - Merkley
15. Calgary - Svechnikov

Flames end up with an intriguing haul:
The first couple picks are no brainers. After that, mocks can easily go off the rails.
Here's an in depth 2 rnd mock with prospect profiler notes on each pick.
Round 1 link
Round 2 link
How'd your fav squad do?
Feedback appreciated and welcomed. I only ask that if you criticize a pick, offer an alternative and rationale.
Thanks!

I like the picks for the Flames except if Beauvillier or Spencer is on the board I'd rather go in that direction than Roy only because they have higher end skills. Roy is basically Joe Colborne in almost every way, it's kind of odd actually. That is useful and I wouldn't complain much at all if he was selected, but Beauvillier could have 1st line upside, and Spencer is also very good as a D-man.
I don't think the Flames will draft 4 d-men in the 1st and 2nd round though, but I wouldn't mind if they did. This draft has a ton of quality defenders.

Just wanted to thank those who have subscribed to FC's 2015 NHL Draft Guide. CP has been a big part of our growth, and this year is already our second-best selling Guide ever and, with a little under three weeks to go until the draft, should become our top one ever!
For those that don't have it yet, here's a bit of a sample page that's made the rounds:
As always, available in PDF to your inbox, and there's that CP discount, too: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=147298

I see a lot of mock drafts with Arizona taking Strome, but I don't think Arizona should, or will, pass on Marner. I know you aren't supposed to draft for Junior chemistry, but it isn't very often you get a chance to take an entire forward line.
