I still think you try to sign Ramo, and keep the tandem you have now.
If throughout the season one of them prove themselves to be a starter, then you can trade the other one and have Ortio be the backup the rest of the year.
Otherwise, it's unsafe to pick one right now as your starter, and Ortio as your backup.

A one-way contract has nothing to do with waivers, but Ortio will require waivers to go to the AHL next season.

I didn't realize he had to be waiver eligible. If that's the case I think you guys should re-sign Ramo and have Ortio as your backup. Try and move Hiller for a draft pick if possible.

I'd sign Ramo and let Ortio fight it out for a spot. Nothing given. If Ortio gets off to his slow start again, he'll pass through waivers.

I doubt Ramo re-signs here unless Hiller is out of the equation by July. Ramo is in line for a payday and at 28 years old is going to want big money on a long-term contract. Also, the fact that Ortio is nipping at the heels leads me to believe that Ramo isn't going want to play musical chairs if he doesn't have to.
Ortio is going to be looking to prove himself too and push for the #1 job as well; Treliving and Burke may be comfortable letting Hiller expire into the end of next season while lettting Ortio take the reigns, without any long-term commitment this summer to any person on a huge contract. This also allows Gilles to possibly position himself into the future without a crowded net, and Treliving and Burke appear to be high on him.
So with that said, unless Treliving can ditch Hiller on his last year contract (which isn't bad by any means), I just can't picture Ramo here in September. It's a Hiller/Ortio combination and let the battle for #1 happen all over again.

I agree it won't be easy to sing Ramo, but he is neither getting big money nor long term. My guess is on the open market, he'll get 3 years max.
The timeline of our rebuild, I'd offer Ramo 3 years also and see what happens. There are other goalies out there.

I thought Ramo overplayed his position at the beginning of the season. He improved but the last couple of games it crept back into his game. I'm not sure which one should stay.

I can't stand Hiller's play style. That Scandinavian Ball-Hockey down on your knees and deep in the crease with no way to prevent rebounds. Hiller is obviously very good at his particular style but I feel like he gets beat clean too often.
Ramo plays an aggressive butterfly and rarely gets beat on direct chances. He's prone to overcommitting which has proved costly, but I like the way he comes out and cuts down angles.
I'd take Ramo over Hiller in a heart-beat. However, I can say basically for sure that Hiller-Ramo is a way better duo than Ramo-Gillies, Ramo-Ortio, Ramo-anybody next year. Orts deserves a chance to shine, he's ready, but I'm not sure he'll come out of the gate a better puck-stopper than Hiller.
The team needs a true #1. It won't be Hiller. I don't believe he can elevate his play beyond what we witnessed this season. It's good enough to get to the playoffs, but not good enough to win you a couple of rounds. Same might be true for Ramo.
I think we have someone special in Jon Gillies. But only time will tell. Hopefully we can find that perfect goalie before we lose our aging superstar Mark Giordano.

Ramo, Genuinely think he was better on the season, also he reminds me of Kiprusoff out there with the way he moves around the crease.
Run with the Fins of Ramo/Orito for next season.

Move Hiller if you can but don't spend much more than 3 years $10M on Ramo. I prefer Ramo to Hiller but want Ortio to get the backup role next year and Gillies starting in the AHL

Actually Hiller was better on the season as he played more games and his stats are far superior and lets not forget Ramo went months between starts and not because of injury. Ramo finished stronger which is why in many's eyes he is better but Hiller was rock solid in the Canucks series. I feel that the safest thing is to not get foolish and commit money and term to Ramo when Hiller is still under contract and Ortio on a one way deal. I feel if the Flame are going to sign a goaltender in free agency it should be an upgrade over this years goaltending not overpaying for the same which was only barely good enough on most nights.

Hiller stays as He is under contract but it is only for 1 more year Ramo and Hiller are both statistally pretty equal. Ramo is going to want 3-4m and the Flames have plenty of capspace and could easily keep him. They could trade his rights to one of the many teams in need of a goalie upgrade for another draft pick and roll with Ortio next season as backup with Gillies not far behind.
I still think Gillies will be the future starter in 2 years.

If Ramo tests the market, or if he signs and the Flames do trade Hiller....you have to think they will still sign another goalie of some sort.
Hiller or Ramo
Ortio
Gillies
IMO, no way do the Flames go into the season with a rookie pro netminder as our 3rd string. Just two injuries away from having no choice but to throw Gillies straight into the NHL fire.
I could see a veteran tweener being signed, to give Gillies a vet to lean on and also to push Ortio to earn the NHL spot. Like an Ellis or Labarbera for example.

A little tidbit about Ortio today on NHL.com.
He says he intends to be the Flames #1 goalie next season.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=768608
Can he give both Ramo and Hiller a run for their money?

However the goaltending situation shakes down this off season, I think Ortio is going to make some noise. I'm also glad he's publicly voicing his confidence about it too.

I'd try and sign Ramo to a reasonable deal and let them battle it out in training camp.
I think Ramo tests the market though and goes elsewhere.

If Ortio is our #1 next year, I think we're all going to be loving it.
