I thanked this. Not because I believe in it, though. I guess I'm jealous of the notion. I can't see myself ever comfortable with that.
Guess I'm a helpless romantic -- no thanks to that reality. Only on internet forums. I guess.

Amusing article, well-written. The author was also once married to Bruce Allen, the Vancouver rock manager (Bryan Adams, BTO) and radio ranter. That was probably a strange trip too. fwiw she probably didn't write the hyperbolic headline. Mind you, she did use the line as her lede...

Good in theory, but you'd have so many diseases doing that it wouldn't be worth it.

hmmm...tell that to Wilt Chamberlain.
Wilt Chamberlain, at 7'1", may have been the most dominating and amazing basketball player of all time. In his legendary career, Wilt scored 31,419 points, including the unbelievable time he actually scored 100 points in one game. He holds dozens of unbreakable basketball records.
In addition to his accomplishments on the court, Wilt also authored four books. None of the others created nearly the stir and controversy as his 1991 book, A View From Above. In it, Wilt claimed to have slept with 20,000 different women in his life.

Not sure she would've written the headline. I know from experience that reporters don't. Then again this one seems like it might be authored by her or maybe at least approved by her. It doesn't really match the article though.
I'd be more interested in the story of the spouse of a journeyman, which could dispell a lot of myths. And I wish she'd have mentioned all the good stuff the wives and girlfriends do charty-wise (maybe that's more recent).
On the moving - I think these days teams are more attuned and have staff to assist player movement.

She uses the title of the piece as the sentence that finishes the first paragraph.

Jenny Scrivens talks about her life as a hockey wife on NatPo this morning. Interesting take on the other side of things. I think we all assume that these women don't work and are just glorified stay-at-home wives, but some actually do have careers.

You know...I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, I really do. But look at the photos of those women sitting around a table discussing not going to the spa every day because some of them 'sit on the board' of charity organizations and adopt dogs from the humane society.
Sure, some of them have jobs, but I'd wager that most dont. Especially not after they have kids.
This sounds like its going to be an episode of 'The View' with a different cast.

The line about it not being like The Real Wives of wherever (which I'm sure is right or the NHL would never allow it) falls a little flat with the promo shot of them all glammed up, just like those shows.
I'm glad there are no Flames wives involved.

Pretty much. You cant say 'this isnt a bunch of glammed up trophy wives chatting about how they're not a bunch of glammed up trophy wives' but have a more stereotypical promo photo than that.

And I bet most of them make $100,000 a year or more. There are people who are working as nannies here in Alberta, or as cab drivers and dishwashers, who are away from their families to earn a living that pays them a fraction of that. Heck, there are people who suffocate or drown trying to get to countries where they can look forward to work cleaning hotel rooms. Does that mean your friends in Fort Mac have no right to complain?

any chance the wives hang out in the hot tub after dinner.
i read somewhere else that the wife/gf of that Blum guy (he apparently splits time in the NHL and the AHL) was an Intelligence Analyst for the Army.
I am going to check this out as it should be fun.

The first job I had in my industry, I was living in Northern BC and was only home for about 2 months a year and was making $45,000 a year. I did it for 4 years (2006 to 2010) before my wife couldn't take it any more. It's just a fact of life for many Canadians, especially ones that can only find work in remote areas.
I have trouble feeling sorry for NHL hockey players and their wives. I am not saying it is always easy for them, but they have it pretty good in general.
