Shout out to Formulate who clearly spent some time putting together the other GDT while CFF is on hiatus.

Crash and Bang Winger

Earlier on in the year I seem to recall Jooris on occasion centering Gaudreau/Hudler, and he seemed to have some decent finish. I think Monahan, Jooris, and Granlund all slot in pretty well as triggermen for setups from Gaudreau. If anything, I feel like Backlund is the one centre who probably would benefit least from playing with Gaudreau, since he seems ok at carrying the puck himself.

I wish Johnny and Monahan were still playing together. Johnny needs someone who knows how to get open, particularly around the net, and has a good release. I think this is Monahan's real strength. The other winger on that line needs to have speed on the forecheck and the ability to dig pucks out which Hudler doesn't really have. Backlund comes to mind but obviously he's not a winger. Jooris I think would be the best bet there, or even Jones if his feet are moving that night haha.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Jooris
Raymond-Colborne-Hudler
Bouma-Backlund-Jones
Kid line
That would be my shake up. Even that Hudler line I think those three could have good chemistry...Hudler with creativity, Raymond with a shot and Colborne good down low and on the boards.

Unfortunately he provided no useful information and also confused the hell out of me with the lineups..
Granlund in, but even says he's sent back down... Shore no where to be found, Schlemko not playing( which could be true, but unlikely he sits for potter) and Ferland just magicly gone...
So...
Anyway.. For lines I would like to see
Gaudreau-Backlund-Jones
Bouma-Monahan-Hudler
Ferland-Colborne-Byron
Raymond-Shore-Poirier
Speed and decent 2way game on each line and each has skill and tenacity.

I think Gaudreau being put on a line where he's carrying almost all of the offensive workload is good.
It will get him shooting more. How many plays have died on that quick pass out front? Sure it creates chances but nothing has come of those chances for the last while.
Need to change it up.

Yup needs to simplify his game a bit, and shoot the puck more.
Falling into the trap of trying to feed the pretty set up to Monahan lately.

Wideman's minutes should be limited, but I would be pushing Brodie to the limits. I can see Brodie leading the league in TOI by end of the season... well if we want to win he should be!

There have been lots of times this year when Wideman and Russell have had the top minutes even with Gio in the lineup. They can handle it.
And you don't split up Russell and Wideman to move Russell up and play him and Brodie 40 minutes. That makes no sense, because now you've changed all three pairings as a result, and you are making Russell and Brodie way less effective by exhausting them.
It makes more sense to put Engelland with Brodie. Engelland can log minutes and play physically, while Brodie can cover for Engellands lack of mobility.

Hype wouldn't play into it. The offense has dried up so I see this as Hartley deciding to spread the offense around so that they can't be as easily neutralized with the Flyers last change.

Speed or physicality when playing with gaudreau isn't the most important factor I think. His line mates need to be smart and strong on the puck. Johnny is a world class playmaker so having him with guys who tend to have plays die on their stick is the bigger issue.
The reason why the gaudreau-Monohan-hudler line has looked good is cause those guys have the ability to keep the puck and make plays just like Johnny can. I like jooris but he struggles in this department... Like most 4th line players, pucks get taken away from him in the offensive zone too much.
I think Johnny is going to have a hell of a game tonight no matter who he plays with cause he's that pumped up for this game.
I mentioned this in the dedicated Gaudreau thread... More important than his forward line mates are the defensemen that are out there with him. He needs to have puck movers like Wideman, Russell, or Brodie on the ice with him. And they need to be looking to get him the puck in the neutral zone a little earlier. If you watch Johnny during the breakout out of the zone he starts to really pick up speed at the flames' blueline. The passing lane is there and he's looking to get the puck at that moment. Too often the pass comes too late or not at all and Johnny has to slow down to avoid an offside. If he gets that puck at the right moment he makes things happen every time he's out there. He's already become one of the most dangerous players in the league coming through the neutral zone with speed.

Jeez... tough crowd...
As I'm prone to making mistakes myself, and too lazy to even attempt putting a GDT together, I appreciate it when someone puts in the effort.

A lot of Johnny's early success came with Jooris, whose game could use a boost as well from playing with Johnny. Wouldn't mind seeing Poirier on the right side, or maybe Ferland. You could also put Hudler there and have Jones with Monahan.

Cheers Murph.
You would think sureLoss would need a morning to refuel after all the activity over the past few days, but there he was, ahead by a minute as usual .
As for the lineup, mine posted were the lines from yesterday's practice. At the time, it was the only info we had (and correct, to defend myself). sureLoss of course provided the updates just before I got a chance to post the thread, so they were wrong and rather confusing apparently. Such is life.
5-2 Flames with Gaudreau lighting it up in front of friends and family!

If someone had told me that Wotherspoon would probably play FEWER games this season than he did last season, and it wouldn't be injury-related...
I would have been quite surprised.

Lol, too lazy to make a GDT? Nope, I leave it to the guys know what they're doing and or actually fact check before publishing...

I love the flames, but with Gio injury I'm a little apprehensive to watch. The playoff race has me so invested now that tonight's game feels like the when a girlfriend texts you "can we talk?". I would normally look forward to it, but I think the playoffs are going to break up with me
