I'm ok with trading Glencross and Raymond for picks and prospects, as I'm sure that Granlund and Sven can step in and give us the same amount of production.

The only 'hockey deal' players that I would like to see coming back would be on the right side or on defense. Or possibly two 3 year contracts leaving and one 1 year contract coming in.

I can understand that you would follow my posts closely , as you have so much to learn ..

I liked the Bollig trade and thought it would be an upgrade.

The only post I could find showed that I fully expected him to paly 3rd line minutes along with Bouma.

Bollig - Bouma - McGrattan

No room for Baertschi or Gaudreau unless they use Bollig or McGrattan as the 13th F, but I kinda doubt it.
To which I responsed:

Quote:
Bollig did not come from the Hawks to play 4th line minutes on the Flames. He was playing over 10 minutes a game with the Hawks and had the 10th most ice time of all the Chicago forwards over the regular season.

Bouma did not do anything to get demoted to the 4th line.

A 3rd line of Bollig Bouma Setoguchi/Jones seems reasonable and serves a purpose. or killer B line of Bollig, Byron (+6) and Bouma (-4)

Byron and Stajan as 4th line guys who kill penalties might be how it ends up.

Colborne (-17) and Monahan (-20) might have to earn some of their ice-time that they were given last year and be better than the players they go up against. Could see them on the 4th line and/or in the stands for a few games.

Bolig was definitely a mistake and many CPers said as much when that trade went down. Blackhawks fans were openly laughing at getting a 3rd in return for him. Engelland was also a massive overpayment for what is ultimately a #7 on a contender. And don't get me started on Setoguchi -- didn't want him anywhere near this team.

But to be fair to Treliving, Diaz was a reasonably good signing and Raymond is nowhere near as bad as some claim around here. Can't blame him for Stajan, either.

I also seem to remember that Treliving signed some goalie or other. Pity he turned out to be a total waste of money.

Yep believe that if you want. Find where I said Bollig was top 6 being held back by the Hawks.

You may not have said that exactly, but you seem to have said a lot very strange stuff in that post.

I can handle Treliving being labelled a careful buyer? If we do nothing, we still have a good chance of making the offseason. The flip side is trying to do too much and losing assets for rentals. I think the team will be in the mix down the stretch and push for playoffs regardless of any moves.

I prefer they are sellers than buyers unless it's a deal for someone who will be here long term.

It's true that there's no sense in buying rentals, but at some point there has to be an effort to take the next step. If management does just sit on their hands at the deadline and the Flames end up missing the playoffs, the patience for the rebuild is going to be stretched dangerously thin IMO.

Not for me. I expected them to miss, and they've exceeded expectations, especially the rookies and other young guys like Monahan, Brodie, Russell and Bouma. If they just miss, they will still have a decent pick in this year's deep draft, and we will have as really good handle on what a lot of the future core players, and future role players can be expected to do.

Not to be too gloomy, as yes, this year is a pleasant surprise to be 1 point out come March 1st, nothing's guaranteed next year no matter what they do this deadline.

Even if they upgrade the talent moderately/to plan in the offseason; if more injuries take hold earlier in the year, some guys acquired don't pan out, some third period comebacks don't happen as teams are ready for the Flames etc, and its not inconceivable to not be in this position next year, and although that may still be "only year 2 and no need to panic", after the expectations of this year, it would sting a bit.

It's all there in front of this team for this year...I think some bolstering/NHL depth will give the roster a boost, both on paper, and mentally in the room that the organization is helping the the team towards playoff push.

Oh, they may well regress a bit next year, as the kids get bigger roles and they will be relying (probably) on a rookie in net for a good chunk of games as well.

That won't bother me either. I want a cup, not 8th place, so I'm more concerned about ensuring that they play a good game and the kids seem to be developing.

Wear thin? It's year 2 of the rebuild. I think most were prepared for at least 3-5 years of being bad.

Just my opinion. I think this season is going to raise expectations, playoffs or no. I didn't say it was fair or justified.
