Wideman's blasts from the point are consistently the worst moment of every power play the last two months.
That doesn't seem to be working with our PP. Shots do get there sometimes and we don't have bodies in front of the net to get rebounds or deflections. Having Gaudreau up high on the PP makes no sense when a large body like Monahan would be better option, or even Colborne.

Definitely need those bodies. I see that as something Monahan will add to his game eventually, but hasn't yet. I'd like to see what Wolf does on the PP if and when he returns to the lineup this year.

You could be right. If Hartley has decided Hiller gives them their best chance at winning night in, night out -- the SJ game is probably more important than the LA game so if Ramo does crack the starting lineup you'd rather it be against LA.

The Pens showed the Flames management why they need to tank to take advantage of the draft system. This team has no puck possession except for maybe one powerplay. Stajan might be good back-checker, but man, the guy has no frickin hockey smarts in the neutral zone going into the offensive zone.

The Flames played a large portion of the game seemingly in awe of the Pens, waiting to see what they would do and then react. That's a terrible way to play the game.

Not the end of the world, nice homestand and maybe a bit of a wakeup call to the team to not be complacent. They need to come out next game and be more assertive, dictate the game.

The fact this team is in a playoff spot today at this point in the season still astounds me, so I can't be too upset. Not the greatest game, move along. The Pens looked pretty good.

16 blocked shots from the Penguins, and most of them were because the Flames shot the puck into them. Needed a better effort to create shooting lanes.

Wideman scored 2 goals in January (17th, 19th) and then 5 goals between Nov 18th and Dec 4th. The other 5 came in the first 9 games of the season. So to a degree a quick start, with a small burst here and there since then.

Tough game but a bit of a wake up call might not be a bad thing going into a crucial road trip.

Not going to win them all and if you had to pick a game to come out flat in this was the one.

I don't like the idea that we can't beat top teams and if we did it would be like "Luck" I guess you could say. An example is against Chicago earlier in the season where we severely outshot but yet managed battle back to win in OT If I remember correctly.

Team is in a playoff position and you are posting about tanking.

Whatever.

We have beaten Anaheim, LA (yes I know, but they are cup champs), Montreal, Chicago, Nashville, San jose and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

I think we have a reasonable (about.500) record against "good" teams. Thing is, week by week, who you would classify as good changes. When we beat LA three times, I still thought them to be a good team.

I like the idea of Gaudreau on the point on the PP, but not yet. He still turns the puck over a bit too much. Monahan is better there. He's ended up there a couple times by accident and held his own. But I do like his big body closer to the net.

We will have to agree to disagree. Tonight he did seem to be restraining his shot. When he has an open lane its a frickin Cannon. Your not going to unload a cannon when you have your team mates congesting the firing lanes.

So you say he has no hockey smarts? Seems legit. He plays as a Veteran in the best league in the world for hockey and you pay in some way to watch him play. Seems like a valid point

He did have a play tonight where 3 penguins were draped all over him but he shakes them off and carried the puck in to a space where he was alone and made time for reinforcements.
