Lombardi's bosses are likely not happy, especially if they end up giving up assets to get rid of the contract. Lombardi probably looks very foolish right now.

I think the two Stanley cups in three seasons makes Lombardi look fine right now

True and false. At least Lombardi's Championship rings are as a manager and are recent.

Hes won as a manager, but everyone makes mistakes, not using his compliance buyout was likely one of them.

But yea, he definitely should have bought out Richards when he had the chance.

At this point I'm using this thread to gauge who's opinions to value and who's not to.

Because they knew Voynov was going to be out all year? Because buying out a guy who has won everything in hockey and been a part of your team for two Cups in the last three years is something to do on a whim?

I think not moving him now is maybe a mistake, but he is doing that. I don't think any mistakes have been made at all IMO.

Well, some of us may not live up to your expectations. That's a lot of pressure.

Well...I agree for the most part, but I think we all have to admit that Richards' contract is ugly for he brings these days. That was a mistake.

If the Flames really have made an offer, it's safe to assume it's built around the assets coming back to Calgary to compensate for taking a massive cap anchor off LA's hands. I hope Kempe or Lintuniemi are in that package.

I'll give you that. Look at it this way if you knew today you had to take on an ugly, lengthy contract. The payoff is you would win two Stanley Cups, but you'd be stuck with the contract. Would you do it?

Lombardi doesn't expect Richards to be claimed on waivers. Says looked at trade route but no fit. Hopes Mike will re-discover game in AHL

They got their two Stanley Cups from the deal and could of ended the cap implications of his contract last summer.

They didn't do that. It was a mistake.

Holy ####! Wow!!!

That is sad for Richards. Actually embarrassing. Even his own GM has seemingly lost faith in him. Does not bode well at all.

As I mentioned if it wasn't for Voynov they wouldn't be in a bind and they might not be looking to move him at all.

We basically have a huge number of posters wanting to claim a guy who's own GM admits is an AHL player who's being paid top six player money for the next five seasons.

Like huh?

Sounds like he's too prideful to eat enough salary in order to move him. Eventually he's going to have to bite the bullet because eating 50% of the contract is still better for the cap than having him in the AHL for the rest of his deal.

Wow. $5.75M for 12 years in 2007. What an insane contract by Philly.

Would you play in the AHL for 5 years to make $30 million or take a discount to play in the NHL?
