You can't hide salaries in the AHL anyway. He still is a partial cap hit, therefore this is more of a hail mary in hopes he is picked up, or new trade partners come calling.

At least he isn't short selling us. If it was Feaster as GM, he probably would have made the trade that was already agreed upon.

I won't be surprised to see him traded in a cap dump/garbage for garbage type deal. Waivers was LA's last hail mary, hoping someone would claim him for free before they have to PAY someone to take him.

I can see the Flames and Kings making the deal if Richards clears waivers. Dean Lombardi could get desperate and just give the extra piece(s) that Treliving is asking for .

ah yes, the standardized hypothetical "Feaster was so bad that he would have done x" post. I don't get it, there's just no need to still crap on a GM who was fired over a year ago. He's gone, move on people.

Roy passed through waivers and was traded shortly afterwards. And his salary was only a mil (albeit much shorter contract length).
My suspicion is that Richards passes through waivers, then gets traded. Sounds like a deal was close but putting him on waivers puts pressure on the three interested teams to make a decision.
Tough situation.

Would be nice. At first I really was thinking no way we should do this. I am reconsidering. If the price is right, the guy is a WINNER.
Memorial Cup
Calder Cup
World Juniors Gold
Olympic Gold
2 Time Stanley Cup winner
If anything he seems to be a good luck charm. However he really does play a physical and structured game which is also nice. If he could find a bit of his lost production it would be a steal. Which I know is a BIG if, guy still wins, a lot.
EDIT:
Only player to ever win the Memorial, Calder and Stanley Cup. Owns the NHL record for most 5 on 3 short handed goals with 3. Also is the only player to play on two teams who have come back from 3-0 playoff series deficits.

Likely too big a risk with that ticket

This year Bouwmeester has 7 points in 38 games. Definitely way too much risk involved.

Depending on the specifics of any deal, I wont be upset if we acquire Richards. Sure he is signed 2 additional years more than Stajan, but he is 2 years younger, and has a much higher ceiling. He played at 54 pts pace just 2 yrs ago, don't see why he can't recapture his game.
And if he doesn't, then send him to the minors or buy him out.

how exactly would that put pressure on those teams? If he's claimed, the proposed trades are off the table anyway. If he isn't, the interested teams can say "see, nobody even wants him for free". This doesn't put Lombardi in the drivers seat, it's merely a hail mary on his part because he obviously doesn't like the trades that were offered.

i'm guessing he will be a flame after he clears i said he would get claimed but didn't realise how much time was left on his contract, it will probably be a trade around smid, or engelland to make room for wotherspoon, or raymond because he is pretty redundent on our team.

I haven't been following the Blues but it seems Bouw fell off after making the Olympic team last year.
Richards is a huge risk for Calgary and I assume Treliving is playing hardball. If he is a Flame I assume it will be a solid asset coming back Calgarys way. Nick Shore possibly?

You can't hide guys in the AHL anymore. Why don't people know this?

Heh. The other three teams are not doing it as a favor to Lombardi; they are obviously getting something good out of the deal they want. Now there is a chance that they don't get the pieces they want, no matter how much that includes Mike Richards (or not).
Example: If Calgary was going to take say, Richards and a 1st rounder (say, for a salary dump and a 3rd or 4th), hypothetically, and now they don't have that, do they really win? Go ahead and say Yes if you want to, but it's a trade that would have benefitted Calgary too, and now it's likely gone.
So your "hail mary" is really not beneficial to anyone except Lombardi.

Waivers is a hail mary by Lombardi, I'd be really surprised if anyone claims him. The three (allegedly) interested teams are far better off making a deal with some sweeteners coming back.

I loved what Feaster did with our drafting crew, but his trades were not the best. All I was saying is that Treliving looks a lot better at trading than Feaster, he is trying to get the most value in return to benefit our team.

That's a ridiculous amount of money to gamble on a broken down player "recapturing his game". This isn't a one year Setoguchi deal, if he doesn't work out that would cost ownership tens of millions of dollars.

I would say Lombardi would be under pressure.
He had a chance to compliance buyout Richards last summer but gave Richards the opportunity to come back.
Lombardi's bosses are likely not happy, especially if they end up giving up assets to get rid of the contract. Lombardi probably looks very foolish right now.

I dunno it's hard to look foolish when your hand is full of championship rings.

Kevin Lowe logic.
Championship rings does not mean you are immune to foolish moves.
Not using a compliance buyout on Richards looks like a foolish move (granted in hindsight)
