Especially when we look at how this is a flames board where the optimism is obviously going to be high.

The amount of mistakes he makes (and of course there will be some with his age and coming right from college) are far, far outweighed by his brilliant plays. It's not even close. To watch him this tournament and to come away from it with the things you're mentioning being the first items to bring up is really bizarre to me. But you're entitled to your opinion.

The number of passes in this play alone speak for itself, and he's been doing this for the US all tourney:

Go back and read my history in the game threads about Johnny before you call me out on being overly negative, that's BS. I first mentioned something about his faults when two or three of you jumped all over another poster for expressing his opinions on JG's play. I stand by everything I said, that's what I saw. I also have no problem with posters who see nothing but sunshine and rainbows when they look at Gaudreau, we are just fans of a sport anyways. However, I'm not going too shy away from pointing out the things he needs to work on to be successfull at the next level because of a few posters who are overly defensive when it comes to Johnny.

I'll say it again: no one's anointing this guy the next Gretzky. It should go without out saying that he makes some mistakes. He's 20 and fresh out of college. For me, that should go without saying.

What I'm getting at is very simple: His game is amazing for his age, and that's the reason you see a lot of excitement about it in a Flames forum. Watching his game playing with men in this tournament has been great, he's done something amazing every game. The good things to talk about far, far outweigh the bad. And for you or anyone else to come here with those few-and-far-between negative examples with the need to quiet everyone else down is a real drag. No one said he's perfect, but the exciting things are obviously going to be the focus in this thread. Coming in here with an agenda of pointing out the small infrequent mistakes is just strange. I really don't get why (even if you felt the need to repeat them) why you just can't comment and move on. You're honestly starting to sound like you have an agenda. His game isn't perfect. We get it. I really don't see the need to continue to point that out in the face of all these amazing things to talk about.

Again, this need to quite everyone else down is BS. When did I ever say anyone shouldn't be excited about JG. Seriously, me saying he might take a few years to learn the pro game is now pointing out the negative is silly. Saying Gaudreau is destined to make the NHL next year doesn't make you a bigger fan of his then I am, there is nothing wrong with contructive critisism.

@GoJetsGo

Just because you shout the loudest it does not make your opinion the most valid.
The evaluation of Johnny in the World Championship Thread is more realistic.
Personally, I'm not trying to temper anyones expectations, I know what mine are but if he doesn't live up to them I will not turn against him either.

Except your recent riding the mistakes came from one page ago when I posted a video pointing out a number of great things. I happened to include the line "Also a big 'up yours' to the "oh but he'll be a defensive liability" crowd", which says to me you felt like that includes you.

I've said my piece. I never said anywhere his game can't be evaluated. I stated several times it's doing that as a response to pointing out a bunch of positive things like you're being the voice of reason that gets very tiresome. It's just not necessary to harp on it to that extent.

Yup anyone watching every game obviously sees the talent, but the areas that require improvement are also visable. Not a big deal, but silly you can't even mention that around here right now without some poster going off the deepend.

lol, there's a difference between mentioning it, and responding to positive posts with an ongoing "Yea... BUT" schtick. And again, it should go without saying that he has areas that require improvement. He's tiny, 20, and has one game in the NHL. I just don't get how you surmise that the people who are excited about him somehow don't know that.

You know what? You sound like I do when someone badmouths Baertschi, for some reason it just bothers me. So I'll let it go, but remember, I'm just as big a fan of this team as you are. I want JG to be the same superstar you expect him to be.

I would say he is the best player in the tournament that has played under 2 pro hockey games in his life. Obviously he is gonna have some weaknesses against this competition...who doesn't?

I watched all his games in the tournament, every shift with focus on him.
Keep yelling at his linemates to give him the puck.
He is starting to hang on to the puck longer now, growing in confidence.

I'm just perplexed that you don't seem to get what I'm saying. I couldn't care less that someone has something negative to say about him. It's that you seem to think you're being some voice of reason with the "Yea, but he still has things to work on" schtick like you think a bunch of people here have their heads in the clouds and don't recognize that. The fact he's not perfect at 20 should go without saying.

Oh get the #### over it dude. I already mentioned that people can have whatever opinion they want on the future of JG, I simply stated my opinion based on the games I've watched. If that offends you too bad, I never said anyone elses opinion was wrong I simply stated mine.

There definitely are people on here who do have their heads in the clouds when it comes to Gaudreau. I'm sure most people realize he has a lot of potential and could be a really good player for us but still has areas to improve and needs to prove himself at the NHL level. It definitely is exciting to get to see his skill first hand though and him having the success he is having against some pretty decent competition.

Well...yeah.

Im not sure anybody hits anybody else without the intention that it hurts. Not sure why else you would hit someone to be honest

SS was just really good at his job....really really good.

The way he chases that opposing player down after the turn-over to recover the puck is huge... and he does that all the time. He hustles like mad on the back check and is very good with his stick. I think he's going to be fine defensively, and dynamic offensively. Oh, and of course the falling down shovel-pass in this clip is sheer brilliance. Goes without saying.
Awesome. My only question is how does Gaudreau get pronounced Goodreau? Ugh. A-U is not the same sound as O-O. I know I'm nitpicking, but I find it annoying!

Not as bad as Toews pronounced as Tayvs. I don't know who pulled that one out of their ass.
