My thought on that is this.

Being a Flames fan is not what I am, it is part of who I am. I've been emotionally invested in this team longer than some of our players have even been alive, so I will say "we" and "us" for those reasons.

I have no problem with it. I'd love to have one with my name on it, but I'm shy when it comes to that kind of thing and wouldn't want my name out in a public place like the dome. I'd get one for playing shinny, or maybe a jersey display case in the basement.

Please....

I never pay full price.

But related to te original topic, I only have the Morris jerseys cause we share the same name. As a kid I would of never had any interest if his last name was Simpson, Albelin, or Belak.

The Morris jersey for me acts as a personalized jersey without te embarrassment of putting my own name on it.

I used to have an opinion on this but I stopped when I realized that what other people wear doesn't define who they are as a person nor is it my business or a personal affront to me or mythical sky men of hockey.

Pretty much this. Of course you can put whatever you want on your jersey and this stuff is all subjective, but I just find it cheesy when a full grown adult has their own name on it.

I have a few Saints NFL jerseys, and the first one I ever got was back in junior high, I got my own name stitched on it. It was a freakin dress on me back then so it still fits, but I never wear it anymore because I just find it lame now. In college I wore it a couple times, but when classmates asked who that was, I'd feel a little embarrassed when I said "me". Judging by their reaction I could tell most thought it was cheesy too. Now it just collects dust in my closet. I'm a full blast jersey snob though.

EDIT: That Griswold one is actually pretty solid, I'd bend if a jersey was a good, nostalgic movie reference like that (same with a Wayne Campbell #22 Hawks jersey). Personally I'd never get one, but I'd appreciate it if I saw someone wearing one around town.

You should have the confidence to wear whatever you want and do whatever you want without fearing what other people think.

With that said, if you do this, you will get made fun of and most people will think you are a moron. But if that doesn't bother you, go nuts. Just be prepared for the mocking.

Do you man. If you want to do it if not then don'ift. Do what you want not what someone else does. You only live once . Enjoy life.

Edit: I once bought a Carolina panthers Jersey because it had my last name and I hate foot ball. I was very young tho.

You forgot about the non-hockey fan spouse who thought they created the best jersey possible by having your first initial, last name, "C" upfront, and your birth year as the number for your birthday present.

But gees, you'd think that the guy who took the order would say something like "are you sure he's gonna want this? Maybe keep it simple" you know?

Ok, so all in all, what's worse?

Show up to a Flames game and see:
1. A dude with no jersey. Work clothes, casual clothes, whatever.
2. A dude with the opposing teams jersey
2a. A dude with the opposing teams jersey with an "X" taped over the logo
3. A dude with a Flames jersey with a name you don't recognize or a phrase
4. A dude with a Flames jersey with a traded player
5. A dude with a Flames jersey with a current player
6. A dude with a Flames jersey with a retired player

Seriously, does it matter?

What kind of Flames fan would you be if you showed up at the Saddledome and thought that the name on the jersey in front of you was more interesting than the game itself or the shenanigans of the other spectators around you.

At the games I've gone to, I don't recall individuals with Iginla and Kipper jerseys clustering together. Nor did I see people remark that a jersey with no name on it was technically correct. All I saw were people excited to be at a game and cheering with one another, high five-ing one another, unified in their cheers and groans. In my opinion, we have some of the best fans in the league. Our respect for our team and our respect for the opposing team has few rivals. I appreciate the fact that the Dome doesn't boo the opposing team incessantly (or our own team when they're having a rough day). In the Dome, it doesn't matter what's on the back of your jersey. However, with some of the comments here, I might be worried about wearing a faux pas jersey at a pub where some stranger might decide I must be educated about Flames rosters from the last decade.

Dude wearing a jersey of a team that isn't playing, or the inevitable dude in the lower bowl wearing the Riders jersey.

From worst to best...
  1. A dude wearing an Oilers or Canucks jersey, especially if that team isn't playing
  2. A dude wearing a ketchup and mustard coloured Chinese knock-off Heritage Classic jersey
  3. A dude with the opposing team's jersey
  4. A dude with the opposing team's jersey with an "X" taped over the logo
  5. A dude wearing a Chinese knock-off jersey that has a faded and frayed logo and number
  6. A dude with no jersey. Work clothes, casual clothes, whatever -- not wearing red

Yes, exactly this.
And the cutesy oilerific nicknames; the Hallsy, Ebs, Hemmer stupidity.
I don't call it out either - just really dislike it.
It's not Mony, Huds and Backs - unless your on the team, or you are 12 and/or an Oiler type fan.
My pet peeves and my opinion

You forgot to fit stupid Riders fans wearing a football jersey to a hockey game...

When my Grandpa was alive while he was in his late 70's we bought him a Flames jersey with the name Gramps on the back 14 for 1914 the year he was born. He was proud to wear it.
Myself I have only had players names on Jerseys but maybe not all personalized Jerseys should necessarily be criticized.

This is one of those topics that people love to talk about on the internet but no one actually cares about in real life. On the internet there's article after article about jersey rules, in real life you see a jersey, read the name and never think of it again.
