I haven't been watching CNN on this lately just checking their website from time to time but has the story from the oil rig worker in the china sea been debunked?
I haven't heard a thing about it, seems to me a guy wouldn't put his passport number on a letter if he was just telling a story/fable...unless of course it was complete BS and he doesn't exist at all.
As far as the media coverage on this story bugging people.there are 239 people missing with hundreds of family members going crazy trying to find them. simple, watch a movie or a hockey game you really don't have to turn on CNN or any other news station if the current "old" news is bothering you.

I wouldn't say explicitly "debunked" but with all the radar data showing the turn back one hour in, combined with the satellite handshakes, it was going the wrong way from where he saw it. They did do searches in that area though before the Malaysian government admitted that it wasn't going that direction.
I would expect a story like that from Fox, but not CNN.
I rarely, if ever, watch news on TV other than Global. but last week I had tuned into CNN for an hour...
I was shocked how often they used "breaking news" and "this just in" but then fed me info that I had read online multiple hours previously. That above video takes the cake though.
I feel kinda lost. For the first 10 days, I was all over this. Read everything online I could. Reddit, Twitter, various overseas news sources, etc etc. These past two days though, I haven't spent more than 10 minutes on my laptop and haven't been able to read much. It felt weird.
I feel this whole sighting in the sw of Australia is nothing though. I would like it to be, but feel like it's just gonna be a pile of trash.
Apologies. I can honestly say I've read every post in this thread and just don't remember that reference.
Heaven forbid we have a fata in this thread. (total sarcasm, btw)
Thankfully nobody's counted how many times the same cell phone questions were asked or how many times we had other similar repeated news here.

Thanks to mayday I consider myself an expert in airplane disaster investigation. My opinion is that it is a combination of Helios 522 and Egyptair Air 990. Pilot suicide by hypoxia. Since i believe the copilot was the last one to radio communication (doesn't matter which one) - he was the only one in the cockpit (the other may have been on break or washroom), change the course of the plane to head south to avoid possibly killing even more innocent people, change the cabin pressure or turn it off ...go to sleep - plane is on autopilot and eventually runs out of fuel somewhere in the indian ocean, This was also a red eye flight, so i would imagine a good chunk of the passengers were trying to catch some shut eye - so most of them did not know what happened.

Sure, sounds like a real trippy way to commit suicide
Helios was an accident and Egyptair was a ######ed religious pilot, are you suggesting a combination resulting in a ######ed religious accident here?

Well in the case of Helios, the pilots forgot to turn on cabin pressurization..so it is possible to turn it off ... I don't know if ######ed religious thinking plays apart.
The fact that the plane flew for 7 hours after last radio contact - smells of hypoxia....question is who did it? If it was a slow decompression like a crack in the fuselage - that doesn't explain the course change, a course change to try and land at another airport as previously reported makes sense if there was a fire or what not - but it kept going, a fire would of took down the plane much sooner. HIjacking/terrorism doesn't seem likely.
Back to who did it...course change to avoid flying into populated area and possibly killing more people - turn off pressurization and slowly kill everyone - if this was to make a point about something? I would think a note would of been left behind...but i think this is a good scenario. Feel free to pick it apart
If hes worried about killing innocent people why kill himself in a manner that kills 200+ other people? That's a lot of collateral damage.
Hypoxia definitely makes sense but suicide doesnt really explain the direction change.
Ya that's a hole in the theory for sure that i can't explain - but i would imagine that hypoxia would be a lot quieter way than other ways? That downside is you bring a few hundred with you.. Suppose he could of just used carbon monoxide

Nothing makes sense, Direction change, transponders (both of them) turned off, the engines squawking every hour for 7 hours but plane not seen on radar for the last 6 hours.
As far as the Hypoxia theory since the crew said goodnight to the Malaysian tower at 35,000 ft an hour into the flight it would have to have been a catastrophic problem to depressurize and knock out the transponders so fast that the pilots don't have time to issue a mayday..everything I know says if that happened it couldn't continue to fly for 6 more hours.
Another thing that bugs the crap out of me is this aircraft was equipped with an ELT(Emergency Locator Transmitter) which is separate from the black boxes and it sends location messages to a satellite immediately after a crash or senses water..why did this not go off if it crashed?

Not one theory seems to make sense, but my guess is that there were 2 separate and possibly unrelated events that on their own are quite logical. When they finally do find the black box, the reaction will probably be; "What were the chances that both of those things would occur on the same flight?".
