Amazing how well Giordano has turned his game around. The last season and a half were just disappointing by his standards. Now, he's playing even better than he was when we were first lauding praises for his growth.
Can only hope that the younger players keep up their energy to the point of keeping somebody like Galiardi and Westgarth off the starting roster.

As great as it was seeing the young guys play the way they did, we do not have room for them all. Long term it will be more beneficial giving them a taste and sending them back to abby for more work.
Tough not to be excited about the future (for once) with this squad and the development behind it.

I've been saying it late last season and early this season that Butler is actually not that bad. He is not a top defensive pairing nor 2nd pairing. He is more fit as the last pairing not playing a lot of minutes. Him playing less minutes means the tendency to make mistakes is lesser. Someone even gave me a hard time when i mentioned he was playing well at one time. Ever since we have everyone on defense back Gio-Brodie, Wideman-Smid and Russell-Butler pairings, he's been improving and he's even willing to help out his teammates. He still makes mistakes but not as much though. I really think the reason Burke did not trade him was because Burkie thinks Butler will re-sign with this team. If I am Butler I would. Where else can he get the minutes he's playing right now? He's even playing with a good D partner.

The average age of the lineup last night was 26.5. Excluding MacDonald, it was 26.1
The 26.5 would make the Flames the 4th youngest, wedged between Wash and Ott. Wpg is the youngest at 26.2

Turku GoalieBot v2.0 was impressive. Granted, against very poor opposition.

I work with a guy who's wife is cousins with Wotherspoon and apparently he's on a plane to Calgary and is expecting to play Friday.

I think Burke must have felt relieved after watching our actual talent last night.
Had nothing to do with coaching as this TEAM appears more close knit and competitive than anyone could have expected.
This rebuild will take less patience then anyone is anticipating me thinks.

I'd say expect it. Guy's been playing out of his mind the past month and a half or so.

Yeah exactly. It's great but still a long road ahead, which is fine. Ottawa sucks, if they were in the West they'd be right down with us and Edmonton.

Sometimes I think it would be nice if all of the standard gifs were just put in one post.....kind of a weird game with flurries of activities book ending a period of nothingness....

At the game I attended Wotherspoon looked very steady paired with SOB. Plays within himself, so very effective.

Sven Baertschi, Markus Granlund, Tyler Wotherspoon, John Gaudreau.... a draft like that can really turn the fortunes of a franchise around. I'm still a big believer in Sven and if Granlund can continue and Gaudreau lives up to the hype... oh man.
