My Take on Aaron Dell at HeatHockeyHQ <- A little more in depth about Dell, for those who just can't get enough.
Quote:
...Aaron Dell has received quite a few accolades despite never having been drafted. He received the NCAA’s goaltending title in 2010-11, the CHL’s most outstanding goaltender award in 2012-13, and holds the UND record for most wins in a season at 30, breaking goaltending legend Ed Belfour’s record of 29....

According to the transactions page, Hanowski has been called up.

Good for Ben, but considering he's been a healthy scratch of late for the Heat, I wouldn't expect him to actually see any game action. I feel like it'll just be some line reps, change of scenery, then sent back down.
Could be wrong though, could be the start of the deadline exodus from the Flames roster.

Purely speculation here, but I wonder if MacDermid would have gotten the call if he wasn't suspended? I suppose it depends on whether Hanowski's replacing McGrattan or Stempniak.

I think Hano has played the PITA player role more then MacDermid did the last couple of games.
Career-wise, MacDermid is more like a McGrattan player, but Hano has looked like the Heat's tough guy the last couple games he's been in.
I would prefer him not to be turned into that sort of player, but if that's what gets him called up, I guess you go with it.

Not at all insulted. You put in work on CP and we're all thankful for it. Freeway wouldn't be insulted either.

Can anyone comment on Roy? Sounds like he's been pretty solid while Ortio is up

He gives up the odd rebound. He's a little unorthodox. But he's fast, he gets square to the shooter, and he seems good down low. He was beat clean twice tonight, and he looks a little less solid all around than Ortio.
However, he's been the Heat's best player in 2 of 5 games, and gave them quality starts in 4 of 5. His compete level is very high.
So far, I'm slightly surprised, and happy with his work.

I'm pretty surprised as well. When he got called up, I thought he'd never see a game. I remembered his time in the World Juniors and his time with OKC and thought, "no way."
He's been far better than could've imagined. His rebound control isn't that great, but at least he's able to deflect most of the rebounds in a calculated way where a teammates can get it (similar to the way Barry Brust did).
Like thymebalm said, he's quick and his work ethic is ridiculous. He'll never ever give up on pucks, which is great to see and goes a long way with his teammates.

He's not an NHL goalie. He might not ever be an NHL goalie. But he's giving the Heat every chance to win games.

I hope Roy earns a qualifying offer out of this opportunity he is getting with Ramo and MacDonald injured. The way I figure it, if he plays well enough to do the Heat should keep on rolling.

The best news of all is that the Heat can actually go out there and score goals when he's in the net.
Often if a team isn't comfortable in front of a goalie they'll be more conservative. Glad that's not the case with Roy.

Yeah, this is a big deal. The team has to have confidence in the goalie. I think this was a problem with a lot of the Flames back ups.

I think it's hard to imagine a scenario where he wasn't going to be qualified.
It's pretty evident with the injuries this year that 5 pro goalies is basically mandatory. Maybe 4 if we had an emergency call-up in the CHL.
I'm more doubtful that Berra is qualified than I am that Roy is re-upped. MacDonald is also as good as gone so Roy is a pretty important piece right now.

I think it's very possible he doesn't get qualified. All it takes is Gillies going pro and the Flames signing a free agent that is younger than Roy.

Whether he's UFA or RFA, I still feel like it's more likely Berra is let go than Roy.
Roy fills a need and stabilizes AHL goaltending. Berra is not filling the role he needs to.
We need an NHL starting goalie. That's the position that will have turn over. I think Roy managing minutes in the AHL makes good sense (especially given his results so far).
