Springs1, you may have mentioned this elsewhere, but I am curious...
What do you and your husband do for work?

work in an office. He does make a lot more than I do since he is smarter than I am when it comes to book smarts.
OK, but what do you do? what are your titles and industry?

Good thing you're the one with the service smarts!
Thanks. Actually I am the one with the money saving smarts. I catch wrong prices on the check or extra or wrongly rung up items. I use competitor's ads at walmart to save money and I use coupons at times as well sometimes at restaurants as well as stores.
At times proven my way to get a good deal at restaurants and stores by the way they WORDED the deal whether it was on a coupon or ad. The part that does suck is if they argue with you, but in the end if you get the deal it's worth it and you proved them wrong as well.
OK, but what do you do? what are your titles and industry?
I don't want to give that away on the internet so someone can find me. That's why I am so vague about it. I have done other jobs I can tell you about like mail, scanning, file clerk, back up receptionist, etc. Just your basic office things. My husband does some more technical type of computer work stuff, not clerical as I do. That's all I will say on that.
No, because I don't have any. Plus, hairs you can really tell and what's the big deal anyways really if there were some? A hair is a hair, whoppie do.
See, I know a lot of people who would freak out more about that than whether or not the service is good/correct... myself included...

Springs1, some of your posts are pretty hard to read but I'll try my best.

That's why I train my staff to be able to tell.

It's both. If a steak isn't cooked to the correct doneness to begin with, that's an error by one the Chefs. Someone notices, it gets fixed, done. If that steak is cooked wrong and still taken to the table, that's an error by everyone involved.

Yes, that's the chefs error. But in order for that incorrect meal to make it to the guest, that means the kitchen signs off on it, the expediter signs off on it, and the server signs off on it, and takes it. In this example, a breakdown happened at every level. Team error.

Right, but believe it or not this one is very uncommon, and the easiest mistake to catch. If it's not noticed and fixed at the time of putting in the order, it'll get fixed when it comes to take the order to the guest. In most restaurants, the expediter and server look at both the servers notes and at the order as it was put in. If it still somehow goes out wrong, that's a mistake on both of them.

Like above, that's a mistake on both the expediter and the server.

In most restaurants outside of pubs and bars tips are shared anyway, so this is pointless.
And if I overhear a server say anything like "It's the kitchens fault because it was cooked wrong" then I pull that servers manager over, we have a chat, and depending on if guests heard it, or if it's a common thing, then that server could be walking out the back door shortly after.

Again, it's a team environment. You mention you do office work, so for you it may be hard to relate too. Think of it like a hockey team. If the opposing team scores a goal, very very very rarely is it simply a case of one person screwing up. Can you blame the goalie? Well where was the defense? If a defenseman screwed up where was his partner? Why wasn't a forward backchecking? Why did the other team even have the puck in the first place? There was generally a breakdown of the systems at numerous levels, not just one.
It's a system designed for numerous levels of peer evaluation and support. And while internally we do break down where the system failed and pinpoint where it went wrong and negatively effected a guests experience, very rarely do we find that just one person is responsible.
