Is North America the only place in the world where this has occurred? Australia maybe? Doing a half ass job of assimilating a group of people seems to the biggest mistake that could have happened.

Font + colour = probably not the message they're trying to convey.

Also, I think that if I walked up to a person of First Nations heritage and said, "Hey Indian, thanks for the land", the encounter would probably not end well for me.

Australia is an even bigger mess than we are. They had their own parallel of the residential school system called "The Stolen Generation". It was a government santioned cultural genocide. It makes the school system look like a blip on a radar beside Hiroshima.

Yes, I realize this is easy for me to type as a white canadian.

It's pretty hard to forgive and reconcile when you're still facing insane amounts of systemic inequality. This is the problem with the common white person lens when it comes to First Nations issues, we're under this false assumption that the bad #### has come to an end. It's still happening.

People can talk all they want about the failures within various tribal leaderships but that really overlooks the #### sandwiches many of these tribes were force-fed to begin with.

I am under no false assumption, I know that the issues are ongoing. However, I believe that the focus should be on moving forward and resolving isses. IMO, this shirt does not do that. Rather this shirt continues to foster a subtle hatered of whitey.

For conciliation to work, both sides have to work towards it. If one side is and one side isn't, it won't work.

Agreed, but the government has not put forth anything that can really be considered a sincere effort to reconcile and in fact continues to trample over treaty rights and discriminate against aboriginals. It sounds like what a lot of you want is submission, not concilliation.

Listen the reconcilliation/settling of land issues of the aboriginal peoples of this land is beyond me, and is (I hope) being handled by smarter people than me.

I believe (you note I said I believe) that to truely move forward there needs to be a focus on the future not the past. I believe that is the way to move forward, and eventually resolve the injustice of the past. I think this type of garment keeps the focus on the past not on the resolution. I, IMO, continues to foster the resentment of aboriginals.

Would my belief/feelings be different if I was aboriginal, I can't say.
