I know for a fact that some of the most frequent participants in game threads are older members of the board. Massive assumption on your part.

Well I like to think I'm one of the Gif Culprits (they amuse me so) and I am most decidedly NOT young. Nice wide brush you are using there my friend. Also Guys your age don't post their feelings? Ok then, enjoy the emotional constipation.

That's pretty close to what I'd consider a 'better' fan anyway.

In spite of the recent losses, I still feel optimistic about the Flames future.

I'm inspired by the multitude of one goal games, the tremendous speed and work ethic, and the developing young talent e.g. Monahan, Baertschi, Byron, Russell, Bera, Ramo, etc.

Well, Gaskal is the best Flames fan in the world. I might as well delete my CP account.

It's even more silly to see them defend themselves with "I follow the Flames & they're my favourite team"; well yeah, you're on CP and not HFboards.

2.)Actually, yeah it does.

The more dedicated fans are the ones you see in the GT threads swearing and cursing everything that goes wrong right until the final horn sounds, then spend a half hour or more posting sad gifs and rage in the PGT and armchair GM'ing. Why? Because they give a ####.

I'm guessing you missed the 3rd period of the St. Louis game then. 3-1, but still.
Surprised to see this many thanks for this post because it comes off as kind of pathetic. A real fan would go find a stream and post GIFs in the PGT all night. lol. Get real.

Okay, then the people who post those things enjoy micro-communication. Enjoying micro-communication doesn't make you a better fan.

So people who don't express their feelings in gif format or 30 word blurbs on public internet boards are emotionally constipated? How about those of us who are happy enough with a good old-fashioned face-to-face conversation over a couple beer?

A friend of mine recently started dating a younger woman, and he's baffled at the hourly texts she sends him with the most inane and content-less messages, expecting him to respond to them immediately. How did the human species manage any kind of emotional contact and socialization before texting and twitter?
  • Ate chocolate. Mmm.
  • Just had to park. I hate wide cars!!!!
  • Have to remember to try a new kind of green tea. This one sucks.
  • Did you see that cat falling off a garage on youtube? HILARIOUS!!
  • Cammy hits the crossbar!

Ah, the rich tapestry of human expression via digital micro-text.

Few times now that someone's picked something I've said out to nitpick after massively separating it from the rest of its context.

What do you expect me to say to that?

For someone talking about about what it's like to be an older mature man your last post sure seems to come across as a whiny little baby.

Agreed it doesn't make them better fans. But I think it is just another form of communication. Different strokes for different folks. Not better or worse just different

Friends and I do this all the time when we're all watching from different places. For UFC events too.

When I watch a game I couldn't care less about wins, just want to see the development of the youth which at this point is concerning. In terms of NHL calibre players in the near future we have one. The rest are question marks. By the time we develop any of our draft picks the vets we have now will mostly be long gone and those we do have will be way past their prime. Hopefully we can win a bunch of trades in a row and get the ship on course.

I post in GT's because I enjoy communication with other fans. I generally don't have anyone to watch games with, girlfriend is a Oilers fan, brother works late, and being a chef, a lot of my friends and co-workers are still working late shifts. GT lets me shoot the #### with other fans during a game. Posting "Cammy hits the crossbar!" on CP is the equivalent to me getting to yell it across the bar to some pals.

But other than that, I agree with you. No, it doesn't make me any more or less of a fan than others. What a silly argument

If anyone wants to see what the post game fireworks show was like last night, here's a clip I took. It was arguably the best part of the whole night!

Wanted to go to the game but a bunch of friends came over after snowboarding.

Complaining the Flames suck in year 1 of a rebuild seems a little silly. Being a Flyers fan, the beginning of the year was awful, pretty sure the Flames had more points. Still watched every game (that wasn't blacked out on CI, oh how I hate CI). If I'm not home for a game, PVR it. Saying they suck to justify not watching a game just seems odd to me, I always want to watch. Hell, I'm a Titans fan and still watched every painful game this year lol.

My friend and I totally walked by Feaster in the concourse before the game on Saturday. He was in a Flames windbreaker and everything. It was very weird, how many fired GM's still attend their team's home games?
