Did you sleep through ECON 201 in university? Where does the stuff that he buys with the store credit come from, Narnia? Did Walmart not have to pay for those goods?
I'm sorry, but that comment is too much.

I wouldn't be surprised if the mods here ban people for admitting to theft and bragging about it ...

You clearly have no clue how retail works.
Lets say the cost on the DVD set is $20 to both Amazon and Walmart.
OP buys them from Amazon for $40, and choses he doesn't want them. Amazon has made $20.
Walmart price on them is $50, and the OP lies that he bought them at Walmart (That is the only way they will take it back, and is a criminal act.) Walmart now gives him a $50 store credit. The OP has now stolen, $30 from Walmart. Walmart just paid $50 for something they can buy for $20 from the distributor.
Until the OP uses his store credit for an item that has a $30 profit margin in the Walmart, they will not break even. If the item bought with the credit has a $20 margin, they are still $10 in the hole. Regardless of if they do break even or not, you have still stolen $30 from them by lying, and neglected them of the $30 they would have made on the original purchase.
Love or hate Walmart, this is 100% fraud, and 100% criminal. There is no debating that. It is no different than you sticking your hand in the till when the cashier turns her back, and taking $30. If you are OK committing crimes to make a piddly $20 or $30 bucks, fill you boots. I pity someone if they have to resort to tactics like that to make ends meet... it is truly pathetic. But no matter how you might internally justify it, in your mind, you are no different than a petty shoplifter, or someone stealing car stereos at 3 am.
Again, I find a ton of irony in your statements, no different than the guy who called out puckluck2 for being an insurance fraudster... this community rallied behind and offered assistance to you when you were being robbed, yet you think it is perfectly OK to do the robbing, as long as the victim is a big corporate bad guy with bottomless pockets.
Theft is theft, and thieves are thieves.

I guess no one here has downloaded an mp3? I don't think what the OP did was tremendously cool... but the outrage here is somewhat laughable. Did the OP kill someone in a DUI or did he scam a company that makes so much profit they wouldn't notice it if he did it a thousand times a year? Good lord some folks here need to drink less coffee.

What difference does this make? It is a reflection of character. If you'll rip off Walmart, you'll rip off anyone. And it isn't outrage on my part, it is pity, and second hand shame I feel for someone that will go to criminal lengths to save a buck.
If Bill Gates was walking down the street, is it ok to pick pocket his wallet that has $50 in it? He's not gonna miss 50 bucks.

It's not mom&pop vs. big box. It's mom&pop vs. Walmart.
They are unethical, they rip people off and break the law themselves. If a crook is gonna rob the crooks, too bad.

So stealing is OK, so long as you don't like the victim?
Your statement is ill informed, and unbelievably stupid. They're the world's largest retailer, some people swear by them, others hate them, but unethical and criminal? Better dial back the rhetoric there son. I'm certainly no fan of Walmart, so I choose not to shop there. I don't "get even" by committing fraudulent, borderline criminal, activities.
I really need to get out of this thread. I feel like I'm getting close to that old line about arguing with idiots who'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Dial back the rhetoric, son? Dial up the google, dad.
In the last year they've been fined 82 million bucks for environmental crimes, and they are currently being investigated for corruption, bribery, and labor infractions.
None of this is unethical or criminal, I guess.
We're not all as smart as you, I'll admit that. It takes a special kind of genius to miss this stuff.

the argument that because Walmart may be unethical and criminal in their own right somehow validates theft and / or unethical behaviour in their stores seems weird to me.

So that still justifies ripping them off?
I need to get gas tonight. I am sure Shell has damaged the environment too. I just gonna gas and dash. Thanks for easing my conscience.

you cant possibly be serious? you dont see a difference between making an unethical return to walmart and lying about where you bought it and smashing innto someones car and stealing their deck? i like your posts pylon i really do, but you really need to dial down the intensity here. your position isn't reasonable or logical. context is important and yes, shades of gray exist here.

Dislike of theft and thieves is extremely reasonable, unless you are a thief.

Both crimes will result in a criminal record if caught. Both crimes are morally wrong. And both crimes have a victim.
If you were caught for either, it is going to look just as bad on your record.

I absolutely hate when people use mp3s as a way to justify stealing. I also hate when they use an absolute extreme case like a DUI to justify something totally unrelated.
Doesn't matter where it lands on the moral scale, it is still wrong
