I'm cheering for Gillies, the hell with the stupid canadian political process, last year they got it shoved up their arses with handing the #1 goalie to Subban this year I hope it gets twisted up their bums.

I totally agree. Flames prospect or not, I am still cheering for Team Canada. Not necessarily cheer for USA but I will cheer for Flames prospect against other teams like Russia, Sweden and others but when they play Canadian, all bets are off..Canada all the way.

Not shocked that Klimchuk or Jankow got the shaft but Poirier not being on that list stinks. If Monahan isn't added to the camp roster then I see no reason to watch the tourney this year.

Disappointing that Poirier was left off. A guy that has so much versatility in his game (all 3 forward positions, grit, scoring touch, PK ability) should be a welcome addition to Team Canada.

Still, every year there are tough omissions and surprise additions. Every single year. Wotherspoon last year was a very surprise addition - his awesome +/- numbers notwithstanding. Nothing to get too riled over. I feel bad for Poirier - as I feel bad for all the kids that really deserved to be there - but careers are not made and lost in this tournament either.

Still hoping Canada gets gold here. I am guessing it is a coin-flip at this point if Monahan gets released for the tournament for his 'conditioning stint'. I think he won't personally, but don't think a wrong decision can be made here - as long as Monahan is indeed healthy.

sure seems like one can cheer on individual prospects and still cheer for their country too.

I have no problem having cheered Johnny Hockey versus Canada...though I didn't want him to beat Canada, I would have been happy if he got his points and Canada won...

Before Monahan's current injury I'm sure the Flames planned on keeping him with the big club, I'm sure they still do. Now that I read he'd be coming back right before the World Juniors I really hope they send him. What better way to get back up to NHL speed and for his development then to sent him to this tourney?? I would love to be able to watch him at that level!

As a fan of a rebuilding team there will be a lot of draft eligible guys at the tournament to watch, including guys like Reinhart, Ekblad, Draisatl whom the Flames would be looking at with their 1st.

As well some guys here could come up in trade talks when the Flames are dumping their vets at the deadline.

Klimchuk still has a shot to make it next year, so that's something to look forward to.

I would have thought Poirier would have made the team, but I guess Brent Sutter has different plans. Oh well, not a big deal.

Shinkaruk is more accomplished at the junior level though. You don't just throw out 3 years of his career and his 100+ goals in the WHL level simply because he has played through a hip injury for most of the year so far.

Surprised at the Shinkaruk pick, the guy's own teammates hate him and he might get traded off a Tigers squad that actually has a chance at a championship this year - that's unheard of.

He'll be great as a PP weapon in a situation where Canada will need a goal, but not really an asset 5 on 5.

Team Canada has always done it their own way when it comes to picking this team. They have an embarrassment of riches in terms to choose from, but have made some really controversial team decisions in the past few years.

You might say that the brass has a huge air of arrogance that they are smarter than everyone else, but in a short tournament you don't always pick the best players, you pick what you think is the best team.

From 2005-2009 they looked awfully smart. Since, they've looked awfully dumb. So really only time will tell whether taking Shinkaruk is the right move.
