Going to pick on Tortorella a little more here.
His teams in New York always had trouble scoring and he's done the exact same thing to the canucks. The team still had a good amount of skill up front in the top six and were really good creating offense out of the transition under Vigneault.
Instead of letting his skill guys (Sedins) patiently find open ice and set up some nice passing plays Tortorella insists on basically chipping the puck deep and get it back to the point with a shot and hoping for the best. It's a boring, low-percentage strategy that usually involves 35+ shots on goal a game but very few goals.
It's a great strategy for guys like Chris Higgins but you should be catering to your teams best players and putting them in positions to succeed, not your foot soldiers.
Then again Gillis knew all this and chose to hire Tortorella anyways. The canucks are eerily reminiscent of the 2009-10 Calgary Flames. If they do manage to make the playoffs in wild-card they'll drew the Sharks or Hawks in round one.

The Canucks problem is their lack of legit top 6 forwards.
The Sedins and Kesler have been fine for them this year.
Burrows, who is usually a good top 6 player for them has struggled this year.
There goaltending and D are solid, but they need to add some solid pieces up front if they want to challenge for the cup this year.

I think they have 10 NMC/NTC's hahaha. Love it!
Their core hasn't changed and they have so many 3+ year longer term contracts flooded all throughout the line up that a few Buy Outs or a solid firing of MG will be in order.

Cherry is in fantasyland saying that but then this is the same guy who was wanting Cujo on the Olympic team in 2002 and it happened. Knowing Cherry, in a few weeks when Bernier has a great game, he'll want both Leaf goalies on the team.

Crawford #1 then Smith #2 then Price #3. Honourable mention would be Cam Ward. I know Fleury can't make it on this team. He has been way too inconsistent. Crawford and Ward have SC rings and Loserongo doesn't.

Lou is going to be on the team unless he completely falls apart. I think it will be Lou and Price, not sure who will be #3. Harding's stats are unreal at this point, he could be the dark horse.

He should be. He's got the best numbers of any of them. And he doesn't p;ay in a defensive system top bloat his numbers, and yet he leads the NHl in save %.
And why should Harding be above him?

You're accusing Hughson and Simpson of being Leaf homers? Seriously? They mention over and over how much the Leafs were being outshot.
The Leafs have the best goaltending in the NHl. Even if you're outshot, you'll win a lot.

Nucks better hope not, still 3 more seasons after this with a $4.5 million cap hit.

that is the sedin effect. The guy should be thanking the twins every day for his inflated salary. He is barely worth half that salary on his own merit.

Torts comes in as the new coach and the team can't score anymore...
Huh. Who could have seen that coming?

The Canucks are basically following the same trajectory as the Flames. Stanley Cup finals, great next season but early exit in playoffs, then progressively worse results each season. Probably had to do with switching out AV with Torts, like when Darryl stepped aside from coaching.
The good news is the Canucks will likely not get any better before they get a lot worse and the Sedins all but dry up.

Then how come they have the best goalie stats in the entire NHl despite being outshot so much?
James Reimer 10 18 2.10 342 .947
Jonathan Bernier 15 32 2.19 487 .934

Because we have only played 25 games and odd things can happen in a small sample size like that.

He's been putting up good numbers for three seasons now. The only exception was 11-12 when he was battling a concussion. Every other year he's been one of the top goalies in the league.
I think it will be Luongo, Price, and ___, but Reimer is in the mix for that third spot for sure. So is Bernier.
