It was a rare opportunity, and if you make the right move each time you will end up a head in the long run. No different than making the right move in a game of poker. Even when you do the right thing, it's possible that your opponent might get lucky, hit his card on the river, but that doesn't mean you made a mistake or did the wrong thing. Keep make the right moves at the right time, and eventually you end up on top.
It's looking like an even better move now that stajan is hurt and colbourne will get more minutes to show what he can do. Look for him to have a big night against the Canucks

Time will tell and I'm content to let it play out. As I said earlier, I just hope this isn't a vanity project for Burke. That would be more unwelcome news than the Flames picking up a player that didn't pan out.
We should measure the trade by his value to us, not his value to anyone else.

But with the way they're playing so far, and the ludicrous amount of cap-room we have... this could be a team that makes things exciting this year.
Don't hate to be that guy, I'd much rather the excitement and optimism than groaning about how the Flames don't suck enough to pick top 3.

That's what stood out to me as well. An 18 year old that isn't recognizing how silly he looks, but instead recognizes the pride of being bestowed with the hat. Love it.

It's true! I'd love to be 'that team' this year.

“There’s no more divisions on the team,” said Hartley. “Everyone’s (been) warned that we’re not going to tolerate this, from the ownership down to the video coach. We preach every day that we’re going to be a team. That’s how we want to create this new chapter. This is the new edition of the Calgary Flames.”

Iginla's legacy takes a kick in the naughty parts.

No way to know. It could just mean that they've come in and said, "Enough of this crap!"

One of the most unappealing sides of this board is the constant certainty people have that they can sit on the outside and psychoanalyze the dressing room.

Sometimes analyzing things from the outside is not always a bad thing, (that's a little different from some who seem to state things as fact.) People analyze lots of things potential girlfriends, employees or just based on a particular behavior they observe. Maybe Iggy or Tangs are small parts of the picture but a whole collection of players that have gone through the system the last few years. It becomes a cancer if everyone's developing other peoples bad habits. Some of it may be people in the organization being part of the problem by how they allow certain practices or behaviors to continue. Feaster kind of made reference to it when he talked about "organizational disease". You have to analyze certain behaviors before you can get a perspective on an ongoing problem. Hartley's comments sound like they are looking at the bigger problems not just the small things but the bigger picture.

You do realize that in no way do you explain why it is the right move. You just assert that it IS the right move because "nothing ... can change the fact that it was the right move."

Can't argue with that.

Honestly, I'm happy to let this Colborne thing play out. I'm wrong on a lot of things and hope the Colborne trade embarrasses me and I have eat pubes and change a sig etc.. etc... But none of what you wrote is meaningful support for this transaction. It's just arguing from authority (paragraph 1) and stating the obvious* (paragraph 2).

* minus the "rare opportunity" comment. Yes, this is the only Joe Colborne available so it's rare in that perspective, but trading a 4th for a prospect another team has given up on is not a rare opportunity.

IMO one of the most unappealing sides of this board is the constant certainty people have that just because there's been a lot of smoke there can absolutely not be any fire. They want to really believe that everything was perfect and their favourite players were in fact perfect even though this is not reality and anyone that thinks otherwise is psychoanalyzing.

When the coach comes out and says there's no more divisions on this team and that it will no longer be tolerated there can only be one conclusion in that there was in fact divisions on this team. End of story. This really isn't surprising as there have been numerous indications from Robyn Regehr, Brent Sutter, Jim Playfair, etc that certain players weren't on the same page as the coach and that there were differing opinions within the locker room on how some players were expected to play. I'm not telling you that you have to accept this as truth but it's not up to you to push for everyone else to ignore the fact that there is a lot of evidence that places some pretty fair merit to the constant rumours.

Exactly. How many ex-players and ex-coaches have to make comments about situation in the locker room before the fans start cluing in? How does changes in performance of the team not get the fans to wake up and see there were obvious problems there? I had always suspected there was more fire than smoke from the Phaneuf departure. I think we were all in a bit of denial in believing where the problems were rooted. Hopefully a new leadership group will emerge and the team will be a cohesive unit moving forward.
