Are people really using "truculence" now because Burke is in the org?

Berra was not "great overseas". He had middling stats from a mediocre league.

He's Karlsson 2.0.

No, it was really used before Burke joined the Flames.

It was barely used here except when making fun of Burke and the TML. Now I see people using it as a adjective constantly.

This word will forever annoy me.

It's probably being used more now, still in the vein of poking fun at Burke I think.

Ramo is a starting goalie from what I've seen. Book it.

I would say his international record is great, considering multiple times in international competition he has posted GAA under 1.5 and SV% over .950.

Karlsson never did anything like that.
As for his play with Biel, it was certainly average.

Not sure what point you were attempting to make though, seeing as I pretty clearly stated I didn't think he was starter material and was a backup at best. That's a mighty awkward way of agreeing with me.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 17m
CAR's Matthew Corrente is on waivers today. No one else on waivers. No one claimed from yesterday's waivers.

Physical defenceman with leadership qualities. Teams might have some interest in this type of player.

If we don't go for Corrente (who is physical and a leader, which Feaster mentioned as the type of player they would go after in his presser), the Devils might be the next team to look at. They have to get down two roster spots and only have 3 two way deals on the roster, and Uncle Lou doesn't want to bury a one-way contract in the minors. Urbom, Tedenby and Josefson might hold some appeal and be on the waiver list that Conroy talks about.

Urbom is interesting but at this point Tedenby and Josefson have shown almost nothing to suggest they will be quality NHLers.

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC 42s Eager (EDM), Clemmensen (FLA) on waiviers

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC 14s
Miller (BOS), Urbom (NJ), too. Corrente clears.

Details on Urbom

6'5'' 215 lbs defenseman

Hockeynews scouting report:
Assets: Has an excellent frame and the ability to play a tough, defensive game from the back end. Also boasts good mobility and some puck-moving upside.
Flaws: Needs to add even more strength in order to maximize his potential as a shutdown defender at the NHL level. Must work harder on his puck skills.
Career Potential: Big shutdown defenseman with some upside.

wait, is Ben eager going to make the oilers a tougher team to play against? I thought the guy was going to be a leader, does that open up a spot for another "A" to be given out?

I think they should take Urbom and put Butler on waivers

I would take Urbom. Don't even need to put Butler on Waivers, Smith has already cleared and can be sent down.

Sounds like a good pick-up but the Hockeynews scouting report makes most waiver wire guys sound like a good pick up. Anybody actualy seen Urbom play?

Would Urbom be an upgrade or better prospect to be developing in the NHL over a healthy Breen?

Pronman's scouting report on Urbom:

Quote:
6. Alexander Urbom, Defense
2011-12 Ranking: 3rd
Date of birth: 12/20/1990
Age: 22
Height: 6'5''
Weight: 215
Shoots: Left
Statistics: 68 GP, 0 G, 8 P (Albany, AHL)
Acquired: Third round, 73rd overall in 2009 by New Jersey
Year in Review: Urbom was a very good defensive player in his third pro season, as he appeared to be on the verge of an NHL spot. However, his offensive game has failed to progress.
The Good: Urbom is a big, strong defenseman who projects to be a high-end or better physical player at the top level. His natural physical gifts are apparent, and he even elevated that part of his game this season. He is a mobile four-way skater who does not have fantastic speed but he keeps the play in front of him effectively. Urbom makes good defensive reads, and he does not hurt his team. He also works hard and competes well on the ice.
The Bad: At this point, Urbom looks like a replacement-level offensive player. At the NHL level, he will be a basic first-pass type of player and not a whole lot more.
Projection: He could be a fringe second pairing/good third pairing defenseman.

I'd waive Butler and pick up Urbom.

considering that we are long puck movers / offensive D and short on big-body, physical, d-zone defensemen, this seems like a no brainer pickup.
