How about we wait before we give him the Iginla treatment? He has the weight of the entire fan base on his back.

He's still young. Even if he spent the entire season in the minors, I wouldn't be alarmed. But don't you feel that he has lacked focus and drive this preseason, just a little bit? That's disappointing from a 20-year-old. I hope he's not feeling comfortable already.

my first real look at the team during the preseason.
i think it really is imperative that baertchi pots some points early on and builds some confidence. From what i have read, and the little i have seen during the preseason, this camp sounds like a bit of a disappointment.
bouma was solid, and is a shoe-in for a 4th line role.
i don't know how we can look at that sarich/tanguay for o'brien/jones trade and not shake our head a bit. Both the guys we got back seem pretty darn "meh" to me.

Did you read my post? Most of your complaints were addressed and I was asking a question?

He seems dangerous when he sort of... ends up with the puck, with some space, due to some random event in the play he can then go from there and the skill shows. But IMO when pressured or in board battles he is not creating opportunities/creating or keeping possession. Only watched half tonight.

Why else did you post then?
You said you weren't making any conclusions, but I can't understand the purpose of your post otherwise.
Either way, it's a bad post. Purposeless or misguided.

Shot through screen beats Berra... not an easy goal to stop.

That's always true on hockey forums. However, it is actually a very harsh situation for goaltenders trying to prove themselves. Every mistake is magnified when you have a team that's in a hurry to determine which goalie they can trust.

soft point shot...partial screen...middle of the upper quarter of the net. This is not an NHL level goal.

He lost sight of the puck and the screen was basically just one guy, if I recall correctly.
Last time I watched, which admittedly is years ago, the Swiss league seemed small. I wonder if he's just used to being able to see over everyone in those situations.
Also the puck gets to the shooter quicker in the NHL, obviously.

The final goal was on the weak side no matter how you cut it. Not sure what he was doing on the 2nd goal? Granted i have no idea what Russell was doing on that play either.
For me it was not so much the goals he let in, but that he looked shaky all night. Nothing wrong with him going down to the heat for 10-15 games and coming back up and giving it another go.

If Berra isn't the starter to start the season, or at least staying in Calgary, I'll be scratching my head. He played a lot better than either Ramo or Mac

Thought Monohan was decent, lots of in tight rebound chances for him, maybe 4 or so... Good saves.

Really? The general consensus among the media and fans seems to be that Ramo outplayed MacDonald and Berra thus far.
I think I'd prefer to see a Ramo/Berra tandem though, each playing until one loses.

Looked like a hard perfectly placed shot by Michalek to me.

I've been pulling for Berra from the get go. That being said, looks like he needs to get some confidence down in Abbotsford. One thing I noticed tonight is he overplayed his blocker side massively. Someone else pointed out he looks weak on his blocker side and I think the poster is right. Indicative of him flying out of position three or more times tonight. It's far more curable than a weak glove though. As far as going down early like Karlsson, Berra can move, compensate for it whereas Karlsson was a block of granite once he went down. Should make it a point of contention. Berra is a better goalie than Karlsson by a healthy stretch IMO.
Butler needs to go. Still. Russell is a better option. Obrien needs to be the seventh do man. No reason he should pluck a roster spot from one of the kids. At least they can grow and adapt. Would much rather Ramage in there.
Not worried about Sven, he'll be alright. Just needs a little time to get rolling. Although he gottossed around like a kid a few times tonight. Still needs some mass.
Monahan isn't going anywhere. Not before nine games for sure. Not super pumped on him yet but he's shown he can hold his own. At this point I see going to to Ottawa as a regression for his game. He's a top six center of the future, won't be tomorrow but his growth will only happen in Calgary of that I am certain. Pretty darned mature out there.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it was a soft point shot. Tough goal to let in simply due to the distance, but it was a great shot.
