Weisbrod talked about how they studied rebuilds and looked at why teams failed. Some teams took 10-12 years, while some took 2-3 years to turn it around. The main thing they concluded was it was the type of players they brought in to help the younger players. You need good people, and I think that's why they are targeting character and hard work a lot. Not just with prospects but the types of free agents we target and trades.
I really hope that they figured out the key to a successful rebuild. From the outside its starting to look good, but we won't know until we make progress with the young players.

The team may go on a roll here and there, and (standings wise) best case end up somewhere in the hunt at the deadline.
Worst case we finish last, which isn't really all that bad.
I just want to see continual improvement through the year.

Whoa whoa whoa!!
Pretty sure that's best case....

Everything above the Base and A Bonus is pretty much irrelevant.
Very few reach any of the B Bonuses, and if they do you are ecstatic to pay them that much.

I don't know if you are overrating your prospects potential, but I think some fans here are underrating how long it takes for young players to get there.
Most NHLers take a good 3-4 years to find their range. You are looking at a rookie season to get their feet wet. Possible sophmore slump. And, if everything breaks right an emergence in seasons 3-4 of what the player is likely to become through their prime.
Be prepared for a long rebuild if the Flames aren't adding better vets then Galiardi's and O'Brien s.

I could see the Flames going heavy on young guys in the squad this year to get a better idea of what they have in terms of NHL ready players and then next year start adding more veterans to compliment their young core.
I say 3 years.

Agreed, we realistically have no idea of how these kids will do in the NHL and how long it'll take -- if any of them even pan out. I can understand the optimism, but I'm bracing for a season from hell. At some point the 6-8 game losing streaks are going to be painful. Once the novelty of having a bunch of new kids at the dome wears off, it'll just be the Flames losing every night. Has to be done, but let's not pretend it won't be painful. When the Flames are fishing the puck out of their net for the 9th time at some game in January, let's try to remember that it is a rebuild. Signing Monahan to an ELC won't change that.

can't disagree, but for this season probably not advisable to add slightly better veterans to finish 21st overall or whatnot as opposed to the bottom 3 finish we 'need'...going crappy this year I feel is not a bad thing- in future years though I would agree, definitely have to eventually supplement youngsters with better veterans or this could be a loooong process

Somewhere between goals 574 and 575, and points 1221 and 1222.
