If there was a poll on the term and dollars most would be happy with it. I can't disagree either.

Good dollars, good term. Hopefully he plays at least 150 games under this deal.

Great signing. He'll still be a RFA after this deal too which is great. Really think next year will be his breakout year.

So it makes sense to pay butler more? He's a better player. I'm sure everyone agrees with you (green text implied)

Awesome deal. Hopefully we need to pay him $7mil/seasons after this contract. May be wishful thinking but hopefully some of these young players really step up and take the reigns now that the iginla era is over.

When Backlund plays with confidence he's a beast. The way he started and finished last season, he was extremely impressive. If he can stay healthy he's going to end up getting a big raise in 2 years
I agree that Backlund would be a great choice for captain. He's turned into a very mature, young leader, and I like seeing Feaster having the same confidence in him

Well done Feaster.
What do you guys think the price/term will be for Brodie? I genuinely thought Backlund would get more.

I think it would be a terrible decision to put that kind of pressure on a guy who is still trying to find his way. In a couple of years if he progresses nicely then it makes sense to give him a letter.

Brodie? Two-Three year deal (although personally I would like to see a longer term) at 2 million to 3 million a year. Ideally at most I would like to see him locked up for 4 years at 3 million a year. Years three and four I suspect will be amazing value for TJ Brodie's services.

Yeah, I said he's a good candidate but you're right, it's probably a little early. I hope the Flames honestly don't name a guy right away, don't name a guy for a season or two. Don't rush into it.
I'd like to see him wear a letter though. The way he constantly skates hard, goes to the net, plays a strong two-way game is something all players on this team can learn from.

This is an amazing deal.
I believe Backlund will be top 3 in scoring for the Flames if he stays healthy. The progress he showed in all three zones of the ice last season was unreal. May have the highest hockey IQ on the team. Easy to tell it is all coming together for the guy.
So glad we signed him for two, I predict he will deserve a nice long term contract when this deal ends. Good job by Feaster and awesome that Backlund signed it. Big piece of this rebuild, I hope Backlund and Baertschi get some solid minutes together this year.
This is by far the best signing Feaster has made this off season.
What a steal.

Four years would take Brodie to unrestricted free agency.
It is either a 2-3 year bridge contract, or a long term 6-8 year deal.
I would be fine with either personally, so long as the cap hit on the long term deal does not exceed 3.5-3.75M'ish. It is a risk but could up benefiting this team in a significant way long term.

This is a great signing, both in terms of term and price. Kudos to Feaster on this move.
I think Backlund is really under rated and hope he stays healthy to show everyone how good he can be.
