Knight was also a pending-UFA. College players getting max-bonus contracts isn't unheard of. I imagine it was part of getting him to agree to signing here.

Is this Greg Nemisz's last chance? Sure seems like it could be.
Just did a trip down memory lane for draft articles on him trying to get excited about him again. He was pretty hyped:

Quote:
30. Detroit Red Wings – Greg Nemisz, C; Windsor Spitfires (OHL)
So what diamond in the rough are the Stanley Cup champs going to unearth this year? We think the big power forward from across the river is the man for the Red Wings. He still hasn’t come into his own but Nemisz has all the tools and when he does, he could become another Joe Thornton.

"As a result of two trades, the Calgary Flames dropped from 17th to 25th. Calgary used the pick to select centre Greg Nemisz from the Windsor Spitfires. At six-foot-three and 197 pounds, Nemisz is expected to add weight to his lanky frame and projects to become a power forward in the NHL. He ranked third in scoring for Windsor with 34 goals and 33 assists in 67 games last season."

10:23 PM- In a great tribute to departed prospect Mickey Renaud, the Flames grab former teammate Greg Nemisz. A big center with soft hands that can bull his way to the net. A great pick for Calgary and a Sutter play.

McKenzie: He's a big guy who likes to get into the slot area. He's got a big shot and he'll be a good goal scorer in the NHL. He's hard to move from the front of the net, but his skating needs work.
|
So obviously he has battled some injuries. Anyone have any word on his health going into camp? The other thing that concerns me is he was drafted at 200 lbs with a lanky frame that could support more bulk. Every site I can find lists him at only 205 now. Did he just never fill out or are the sites using an old weight?

I still think Nemisz can be an NHLer.
He impressed on that line with Sven during that injury plagued section of the 2011/2012 season. Don't think he will ever be a big goal scorer but he is one of those players that seems to do all the little things right to help out teammates.
Last year he battled injury and never seemed to be in proper game shape. Hopefully he comes into camp in great shape this year and can have a good season.

I would say it is his last chance based on Feaster's words
Quote:
Nemisz, a restricted free agent, got a one-year (two-way) contract that is worth $725,000 at the NHL level.
A first-round pick in 2008, the right-winger has never produced — 10 points in 55 games last winter.
“That’s still a young guy, a big guy,” Feaster said of the six-foot-three Nemisz. “We looked at it and said, ‘OK, he had a bad year, but he was injured.’ We felt he was so close to knocking on the door ... we said, ‘Let’s just give him a clean sheet of ice here.’ As I told him, ‘We’re going to bring you to camp and we’re going to play the living daylights out of you in the pre-season. This is a big summer for you, a big camp for you. Come in and take advantage of opportunity.’ ”

The Flames are going to give him every opportunity to show why he should be on the team. If he does not make it this year, he's probably won't get an NHL deal going forward.
I really hope he makes the team, some more size on the wings and someone who can stand in front of the net on the power play is definitely welcome.

He jsut needs to be healthy and play with some decent linemates. No different than backlund.
Nemisz might not be a speed demon, but his hands are decent, hes big and hes crazy good on board battles.

Hopefully Nemisz still has a chance, but it seems less likely that he would be an impact goal scorer at this stage. I remember that I was really hoping we had a chance at Tedenby (drafted one spot earlier to NJ), so I guess that shows how much I know!

I'm hoping for this line in training camp:
Baertschi - Monahan - Nemisz

I must have missed all of those 10 point AHL seasons Backlund had.

Because according to Feaster he is best goaltender in the world not playing in the NHL.
I totally agree with a lot of posters here. i think $2.75M a season is a tad too high for unproven goaltender. I hope he works out here or else first sign of struggle, Flames fans and Calgary media will lynch him.

He isn't totally unproven. KHL success does count for something. It might not be on the same level as NHL success, but it isn't worthless either.

I can't believe we're still talking about Nemisz. The dude's ceiling is replacing the shower heads in the locker room, between playing less than 10 minutes a game.

We're still talking about him because he's 22 and we talk about everything on this forum.

They had to pay him something decent in order to pull him away from KHL dollars. And since he is considered one of, if not the best goaltender in that league, that could be a lot of dollars. I would imagine Ramo left about 2-2.5 mil on the table to come to the NHL.

Last I checked besides his last injury season he was ~0.5PPG in the previous 2 AHL seasons as a rookie on a crappy AHL team with no offense.
