Or Lidstrom, just because he doesn't play physical doesn't mean he's doomed to become Jaybo 2.0 (I am in no way comparing him to Lidstrom just to be clear).

As someone who doesn't take a lot of time in evaluating prospects and watching junior games I really like what I keep reading about Ryan Hartman. The Flames have desperately needed a guy like that for years, and I really hope they take him if he's available later in the draft.

Right now here's is what I am hoping for

Monohan/Nichushkin/Lindholm at #6
Hartman/Morin/Pulock at #22/#28
Also wouldn't mind taking Mantha, but he probably doesn't fall that low.

My wants for this draft would be a two way center with offensive upside, a scorer, an agitator, then a defenceman (preferably with size). Getting three out of the four in the first round would be a win in my view.

Just whatever you do don't take a goalie, unless he completely falls off the board and you can steal him with later picks.

Man I hope Feaster can pull something out of his ass that gets us into the top 5 without giving up the #6. I highly doubt it though.

I would have no problem giving up next year's first rounder if it meant getting us into the top-3 this year. Obviously we'd have to add, but I wouldn't mind at all. Don't think Colorado, Tampa, or Florida would have any reason to do that, unless there's a player they absolutely want next season.

Ultimately, if any of those teams are willing to deal, it would come down to whether or not Feaster and Weisbrod want one of Jones, MacKinnon or Drouin vs. Sam Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad, or William Nylander.

I still don't see any reasonable way that our 1st next year should be on the table. The top end this year might be better than the top end next year, but not better than next year plus whoever we get at 6 plus whatever else we add, which is likely the cost.

Other than size, can anyone tell me the difference between Ryan Hartman and Capitals' pick Tom Wilson from last draft?

They're almost identical in every manner. Both Plymouth Whalers, both right wing, almost identical PIM, almost identical point totals, both tough as nails, both agitators/pests, both grinder/power forward types.

I'm more or less just comparing those two players to get a better sense of what the Flames would have if they picked Hartman... and I like what I hear about him.

this is going to be the greatest draft ever. Starts at 9 pm over here, all rounds are done on one day, the girlfriend is gone for a few days, I don't have to work on Monday and of course this all happens in a draft where we have three 1st rounders now if only TSN could get rid of their stupid "our stream is blocked for Europeans" strategy and everything would be perfect

Funny how physically they're completely different, yet they're the most NHL ready.
Good lord.. I get that it's the standard testing, which is probably pretty lame, but that picture of Jones is kind of shocking. He oozes a laissez-faire attitude, which also screams of Jay Bouwmeester.

Good on you. My wife is gone also, no chance she would let me watch the full draft if she was around. I am on the west coast and will have to start drinking around noon. I think i am up for the challenge.

There is no reason to be certain we'll be top three next year. We likely will, but top three this year is better than 6 plus maybe imo

Darren Haynes ‏@DarrenHaynes_CP 3m The dynamic C from QMJHL went 1st, a big WHL d-man went 3rd, the Russian was 5th, Flames took an OHL forward No. 6. The year was 1998. #Fata

Soooooo Lindholm it is then ya?

No, there's no way to be certain, but I'd rather we not get impatient only two months after accepting what we are.

Cory Pronman's Mock Draft:

1. Colorado - MacKinnon
2. Florida - Jones
3. Tampa - Drouin
4. Nashville - Barkov
5. Carolina - Nichushkin
6. Calgary - Lindholm

Quote:
6. Calgary Flames, C Elias Lindholm, Brynas (SEL)

Calgary has been debating between Nichushkin, Lindholm, and Sean Monahan, and even Finnish defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has an outside chance to go at this slot. I have not heard any specific knowledge on this selection, but Lindholm is a best guess.
Really solid analysis there Pronman...

Quote:
22. Calgary Flames (from St. Louis), G, Zach Fucale, Halifax (QMJHL)

It has been rumored that Calgary is looking at a goaltender, and if they take one at this pick, acquired in the Jay Bouwmeester trade, it will likely be Fucale. I am skeptical, given that that the Flames acquired goaltender Reto Berra in that Bouwmeester trade, not to mention the fact that they brought Karri Ramo over from the KHL last year. Furthermore, college prospect Jon Gillies looks very good, and the Flames have good AHL goaltenders. Still, if I had to peg any team as the likeliest to be the first to select a goalie, it is Calgary.
Quote:
28. Calgary Flames (from Pittsburgh), C, Nicolas Petan, Portland (WHL)

Some scouts think Petan will sneak into the first round, which would not be off the consensus, but it is far from a sure thing. The co-scoring leader of the WHL, despite lacking size, Petan certainly fits what Calgary looks for in a forward, which is high levels of hockey sense.

Feaster......On your way to the podium remember what the Flames needs are. Large, irritable, fast and talented North Americans. This team has no room for epicene Euros, Smurfs, Dorfs or jockeys. Easy, huh?

Man 22 and 28 are totally just bonus to me at this point. Getting another nice forward and D prospect would be cool, but I'm just completely absorbed with #6.

Bruce Garrioch ‏@SunGarrioch 17s Okay thanks. Isles will move their No. 15 pick for a player who will help right away. #NHLDraft #QMIAgency

Think Stempniak would do it?

Maybe Cammy or Stemp + 22 .... I don't see just the player being enough since other sources are saying there's not much interest in Cammy at the moment.

Not a chance one year of Stempniak gets you 15th overall in a deep draft.

Would not be surprised to see them package that pick with a high end prospect and young player for Letang.
