I disagree. They have shown that this is an issue they are going to be ruthless with. As a group they hold all the cards in this negotiation. If we build it through their land we will have to overpay and the reserve will still have leverage on us. Pick plan B whatever that is. Bulldoze Lakeview or build over the reservoir, whatever else it takes to complete it without involving them in the process. They`re not bad people and they are only exploiting the city`s stupidity over the past fifty years. But with their treaty`s and the leverage over the city they have, there is no way we end up doing anything but getting crushed in this negotiation.

Yeah, "indians". I thought that was a derogatory term for Natives, no? If it isn't then I'm wrong, but I thought it was. Anyone know for sure, or is flameswin just getting PC butthurt all up in here?

I just know that in real life whenever I hear white people talk unfavorably about Natives, they usually purposly call them Indians with a derogatory tone. Like "Well maybe those damn indians should get a job!" as in "They don't want to be called Indians, but they piss me off so I'm going to call them Indians as a sign of disrespect!". That's kind of how those posts came off to me, but again, maybe that's just because of how I've heard the term used in real life.

Using "indian" in a perjorative sense is offensive to people from India, much like using "gay" to insult a straight person is offensive to gays.

GD some of you guys love to get PO'ed about anything and everything... You remind me of Maude Flanders.

I have indian friends and they call themselves indians. It is not racist or derogatory to them... It's really just confusing, because in this day and age the term is used interchangeably for East Indian or Native Americans...

I'll watch my wording next time for those delicate flowers (who'd die after one day living on an Indian Reserve, Manged by the Department of Indian Affairs)

Now, to avoid any more derailing...

Is the mayor looking at options to reduce the use of rocks/gravel in the winter? I know salt has it's own challenges (rust/runoff), but my car is covered in 3M and still gets beat up!

If this was twitter I'd say hashtag selfish question

When can we expect the Chinook station construction to be done? Is it currently on schedule?

Have city planners considered the extra traffic volume on the 22x MacLeod overpass once stoney is complete. The backups at the westbound lights is getting bad.
It's recommended for interchange construction in the 10 year Transportation Capital Plan (2015-2017 timeframe). $55 million. Certainly needed.

Transportation felt there is capacity with some of the changes that are recommended for the area - there will be some intersection improvements made (extra turn lanes and such) that will increase capacity. Improved transit capacity (4 car LRT, SETWAY and SWBRT) are also crucial to reduce the crunch in the south.

Roads tries to keep up as best it can - potholes are part of the reality of a winter city. If there's particularly troublesome ones, I'd recommend reporting through 311. The mobile app is quite handy for this too.

Yeah, the environmental impact is certainly a big consideration. Almost the entire geography of Calgary pre-1979 does not have storm water treatment so large amounts of salt or other compounds can have really bad impacts on our rivers. Any ideas?
