whats the old saying, fool me once, shame on you... Rob Ford has a record of substance abuse, illegal drug possession and history of lying about it. why anyone would give him the benefit of doubt is beyond me. shame on you, i guess.

But when does it stop? if someone said Rob Ford is from Mars and they have a video to prove it...does his past transgressions validate the accusation?
If he abuses anything it seems to be alcohol, but no one has accused him of showing up to the office drunk or smelling of booze yet
Boozing to crack smoking is a huge jump and this apparent video to prove it, is nowhere to be found. It's totally possible he smoked crack and there is a video - but innocent until proven guilty , his lying in the past doesn't prove he smoked crack.
Again we all know Rob Ford has lied in the past - but that alone doesn't prove he smoked crack.
Smear campaigns are also bush league and some people have thrown stuff at him that hasn't stuck

I would imagine that it would stop sometime before he is accused of being from Mars.

Ford's statement doesn't pass the smell test to me but who am I to judge from 3000 miles away. The thing is his fellow politicians don't believe him either.
Quote:
City Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker said he was profoundly disappointed in the mayor's statement and called on Ford to resign. De Baeremaeker said he believes the reports about Ford's alleged drug use and believes Ford's tenure is over.
"I don't believe the mayor," he said. "He should resign and then go seek help."
De Baeremaeker said he's observed erratic behavior from the mayor.
"The mayor is just imploding," he said. "The mayor had an opportunity to acknowledge that perhaps he does have a problem, and to take a leave of absence, perhaps to take care of himself and his family, instead he went on the attack."
Other councilors said the mayor wasn't comprehensive enough and said the distraction is not over. Councilor John Parker called the statement too little too late.
"I'm not sure we've heard the whole truth," Parker said. "Questions continue to swirl around him."
Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday, a close ally of Ford who was standing near Ford during the news conference, acknowledged it's not over.
"He would have been a lot better off had he made this statement earlier in the week but for whatever reason he did not," Holyday said.

There's not even a close comparison, I've gone after Trudeau based on his track record, and his ability to put both feet ankle deep into his mouth.
I've said he's a spoiled rich kid who's gotten a easy ride due to his legacy.
Please tell me how I've gone after him with allegations of drug use, or murdering puppies or anything like that.
But please continue on with a stupid line of logic, that would be awesome.

It's not just booze with Ford, he was arrested with marijuana and has a proven propensity toward poor choices and little self control. His transgressions have been many and his accountability little. At which point do you accept something without a video? It's also a huge leap from smearing someone to conspiring to make up a false story, which is what some are suggesting.

There is no surprisethat other councillors want Ford to resign - there is a huge disparity on that council between fiscal conservatives and borderline socialists.
There is a pendulum effect and it will start to swing back the other direction where this does look like a witch hunt. Watch for a few stories to come out in support of Ford over the next few weeks.
Imagine the drama if he were to be re-elected?!?!?!

OMG, Marijuana! Again, I understand the whole 'gateway drug' mentality, but there is a lot of hypocrisy here. I think its hilarious that some of the same people who condone Harper for enacting stricter marijuana laws are eager to jump on board with the Force being involved in illicit drugs and that somehow equating Rob Ford to smoking crack.

Almost as foolish as your ongoing claims that you're not defending Rob Ford.

It was marijuana, who cares. Marijuana should be legal, I think everyone knows that. It's no worse than cigarettes or alcohol.

Should be could be isnt.
Until it is legal, he broke the law, and should be punished as such.

Has anyone condoned Harper for that horrendous crime bill? Honest question, because as a guy who voted for Harper, I believe that was one of the worst bills I've seen passed in my lifetime. And I didn't follow CP too closely on the issue, but I thought i remember it being almost unanimous that is was terrible, and that we need to be going the other way with weed, not back to the same methods that have been disasterous in the US.

Bill C-10 is what is going to cost Harper at minimum his majority, if not his government, next election. It's straight out of the 80's

It's not even that he broke the law, but he denied it for as long as he could after the Star broke the story. Then when the proof came out, he said that he forgot about the charge.
I think that's a big reason why people are apprehensive to believe him this time too.

Nobody has to believe Ford's denials if they dont want too...but...they should also absolutely want both the Star and the Globe to prove what they allege with the same veracity. Instead, I get a very definitive feeling that those folks who are all over this thing as done and complete....are not holding the actual accusers to anywhere near the same level of accountability. Guilty til proven innocent, and that is mostly by people who would consider themselves among the "tolerant and compassionate" side of the political spectrum. Its quite telling.
I mean if I was to contact some US based website and tell them I have a video of Calgarys mayor smoking crack with me and my dope selling gangster friends, but offered zero actual proof other than the words from 2 calgary sun reporters....those same people would be up one side of me and down another, calling for libel suits and defamation decrees all the while.
It doesnt matter what Fords previous buffonery contains (and its extensive no doubt) because this is a very seperate and highly volatile accusation. I dont get why people cant seperate those things, but its the way both the law and reality work.

That's not really what happened though.
If you showed that video of Calgary's mayor smoking crack with you and your dope smoking friends to the US based website, and then showed it to two reporters from the Calgary Sun, and everyone who watched its said "we saw a video of the mayor smoking crack...".
I don't believe Ford's denials because he really hasn't denied the story.
Really, what would you have said? I'm pretty sure it would be something like "there is no video of me smoking crack, because I've never done that".
It's pretty straightforward. Instead though, he ducked it for a week, acted about as guilty as possible, and then gave up a carefully worded non-denial denial that didn't say "there is no video of me smoking crack, because I've never done that".
If the guy had even said "I made a mistake, I don't do that anymore, wah wah wah", I'd say he should get to keep his job.
Unfortunately he's such an an unsympathetic character -- a hypocrite, liar, bully, and in general a world class a$$hole, that few people are going let him off the hook.
