Surprised given his 1 point in 55 (granted, he was young on a bad team) then fair but unspectacular followup season that there is not more skepticism about him.

I can think of a few guys I would be willing to give up one of our three first round picks for to move up but Pulok isn't one of them. Reading about him definitely makes me hope that he drops to one of our picks but I am not convince that Pulok >>> Rychel + Mueller (for example).

With how deep this draft class is going to be, I can definitely see there being a lot of shuffling in the 10-20 bracket as well as in the 20-30 bracket as teams apply their BPA rankings and team needs to their drafting. If we can turn the Blues+Pens picks into another top10 then I would go for it but I would rather keep both picks than jump up to get a prospect ranked in the teens.

In my dream scenario right now we would somehow get one of Gauthier/Mantha and Morin and solve our size problems right there.

Mantha reminds me a little bit of Getzlaf in terms of attitude. I remember reading some stuff on why he fell so much in 2003, it had nothing to do with his skills but because of his lethargic on-ice demeanour - apparently similar to Mantha. Something we should keep our eyes on.

I think Getzlaf is more of an aberration. There were a lot of teams that past on him due to his inconsistent efforts for the Hitmen. Even when he was picked, it was thought that he would be a guy that might take the odd shift off.

There is a widely held perception that Mantha can go cold for long stretches and for me that is a red flag. Having said that, it could also have something to do with how he plays stylistically. Can he turn it around? Sure, he can, but it's a big question mark.

Give me those hard to play against guys: Lazar, Horvat, Hartman, Compher.

Too many one dimensional players one the team in the past few years.

So now we have a guaranteed pick in the neighborhood of 19-24. Who will they pick?

If we can get Lindholm and Nichushkin, I'm a happy camper. Also, if we can get Khoklavchev out of Boston~ I'm happier~ Damn Iggy for scewing us out of that guy.

Looks like we will be picking no later than 20th and if Toronto can beat Boston tonight we will move into 19. Should be able to pick up a decent prospect here.

Not quite yet, depends what happens next round. But if NYR and Tor wins it will help it go lower for sure.

Why does the second round have any bearing on draft position for a team out in the first round?

Because the four conference finalists pick 26-30, and depending on how many of those finalists finished below the already outed team, changes how far down their draft position gets pushed.

Yeah, I just read up on it. So only the 30-26 are decided via playoff performance, while the rest of the playoff teams are sorted out based on regular season performance.

Yeap.

In regards to our draft picks, best case scenario would be Rangers and Leafs victories tonight, and then have the Sens beat the Penguins and the Wings beat the Hawks in round two....the Kings/Sharks and Rangers/Leafs series results wouldn't matter as either team from each series advancing to the final four would have a positive result on our picks.

Our final draft positions would then be:

6th
19th
25th

So I'm assuming guaranteed 22nd pick already factors in that, should Boston and Washington win, one of them still won't go to the conference finals?

If both Boston and Washington win today, the best the Blues pick could possibly be is 20th.

Right now it's guaranteed to be no worse than 22nd.

Hmm, I don't really get it. Isn't Boston and Washington winning technically the worst case scenario for the Flames? If that's the case, how can it still drop it two more places?

You're both right... He said 20th is the best it could be.. Not what it would be.

As of right now, it's possible the pick could be 19th... He's saying if both WSH and BOS win (worst case, as you mentioned) 19th will no longer be possible, and 20th will be the best that pick can get.

Man. Having to cheer for a Leafs victory tonight for the betterment of The Flames...if it must be done, it must be done. The chances of 3 road teams winning 3 game 7s though must be pretty low.

I would rather have #30 than #20 and cheer for the Leafs.

Sorry guys. I'm hoping for a Bruins win tonight

You don't have to cheer for the Bruins or the Leafs... Just hope for the best for the Flames and watch the Rangers/Caps game instead. As long as the Rangers win, the Flames still have a chance of drafting 19th (assuming a Sens-Rangers final).

However, if both the Leafs and Rangers win then that would guarantee that the Blues pick will land between 19-21 depending on the results of the CHI/DET and PIT/OTT series.

For those that didn't see it in the Draft order question thread, there is a link to someone who is keeping an up-to-date tracker of the remaining draft picks:
