On one hand I'm happy the team that finished last didn't get the first overall pick although a salty looking Dale Talon would disagree. On the other hand it makes me feel a little sick that a team like the Avalanche who placed Jones ahead of winning games this season got their wish. Kind of wish if Calgary couldn't win it that the Predators would have as they like the Flames really need the top end player unlike the Avalanche, Hurricanes, and Lightning that are the rich getting richer.

Monahan has also been touted to have an incredible Hockey IQ, which would really help a guy like Baertschi, who near the end of the season was really starting to find the right spots. Monahan is the type of Centre that would play to Baertschi's strengths. Throw Cammi on the RW, and get that leadership on the line, and I think they would look great.
Good post, Monahan seems to have leadership potential. Something this team desperately needs more of.

Cheer up, Calgary.

You guys have a solid #6 pick this year. Last year, the Jets were dealt the #9 pick, and drafted Jacob Trouba, who will eventually be a Norris Trophy candidate. I have no doubt the Flames will get a impact player this draft.

Yeah, I'd much rather Florida would have won. They had a ton of injuries this year and a reason to suck. Colorado seemingly just shamelessly tanked.

Who cares if teams tank. I'm sure that Caps fans don't care that they tanked to get Ovi.

6th overall + 3rd (66th overall) for the 5th overall.

That's the kind of cost I'm thinking/hoping.

the problem with this trade suggestion is that the only reason for the Flames to do that is that they think they like the same player that Carolina likes. And if so, Carolina wouldn't want to trade.

When you trade away your 2 best players at the deadline with no immediate return of a single NHL player, and padding out your roster with AHL or NCAA call-ups, that's first class tanking. The problem is the Flames couldn't give it their all, and coax those players to find a way to play just well enough to lose close games.

Why...? Keep the 3rd. You'll end up with a extremely similar quality player one way or another. Would be interesting to see somebody pick off the board though.

It was just a thought. If the Flames really want Lindholm, and Carolina was going to take him, even though they are a bit impartial regarding who they draft.

I mean, we've given up 2nd and 5th round picks for UFAs in June.

This at least gives us what we want.
