At this time of year winning should almost be easy in Edmonton and Calgary's situation.

You have a bunch of young guys, with no real pressure, fighting to make an impression and make it easier to secure a NHL job for next year.

Winning is harder when your fighting for that playoff spot.

Edmonton for a so called superstar ladenteam, has not shown much character, resiliancy of desire since they had that easy win against a demoralized Flames team a few weeks back.
The difference is comfort. The Oilers younger players of Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yakupov, Justin Schultz know they have the team made next year no matter how they finish out this year. But the lower end part of their roster, guys like Hartikainen, and Paajarvi, are not showing much of anything right now. It's like these guys expect jobs to be there for them next year, and don't feel like they need to show something to help them make the team next year.

Just before the trade deadline, a couple guys on local radio were lamenting the fact that the Oilers traded Stoll and Green away for Visnovski thinking they needed more skill. When they took guys like that out of their lineup, they started becoming pretty easy to play against.

It's no coincidence that trade coincided with the Oilers really sliding. Stoll and Greene played a big part in the Kings growth years from bad team to winning the cup. That was typical Lowe undervaluing character and leadership with his all-skill tunnel vision mentality that's as dumb as the Flames win-now mentality.

I have been enjoying this guy's tweets. I think some of the fans that were living in that hype bubble are finally starting to wake up.

So, if....

...Nashville beats Detroit tonight.
...Carolina beats the Rangers tonight.
...Tampa beats Boston tonight.

...the Oilers would fall into sole possession of 28th place.

They could actually finish as low as 29th, if they lose both their games, and the Avs win both of theirs in regulation.

The Oilers have a real solid chance at getting one of the "BIG 3".

Unbelievable.
Shocking.
Pathetic.
Despicable.
On second thought, not shocking.
Embarrassing.
Ridiculous.

#19 Justin Schultz, 1. It’s been hard to watch the promising young defender’s game come off the rails as the season has gone on. Wednesday night may have been a new low, as the Oilers were outshot 14-0 during Justin’s (team-leading!?) 17 minutes at even strength. In that time the Oilers attempted just 5 shots, 4 of which got blocked; the Hawks meanwhile had 23 attempts, just 1 of which was blocked. I’d think about that a little more except my head hurts already.

He ain't no Bobby Orr...He might not even be Bobby Fischer...
Schultz has been BRUTAL the past 10 games...offensively, he cant piss a drop and defensively he's even worse

he looks completely gassed out there

I'm not worried cause it's his first year in the league and he still looks good on the PP, despite not scoring as much

9 games (all losses) in April where the Oilers score 1 goal or less. Somethings is definitely not right about that picture.
I watched the game last night and got the impression a lot of players were going through motions.

I have said this before but the Draft is there to help all teams especially when young skilled players can bring more excitement and fans. The Oilers should be bumped down every time they are eligible for top five. What they are doing is embarrassing especially since they keep picking players that don't fit.

It doesn't matter where they finish - they will win the draft lottery again. They will pick first overall as many times as Kevin Lowe won a stanley cup, cause he knows about winning

Watch them draft Drouin 1st overall.

So in actual fact, we should be asking ourselves, how much longer do you think the Oilers will be the best at being this bad for?

Maybe Lowe is addicted to the attention he gets when his organization fails at "big game hunting" and drafting first overall.

Maybe he'll mentally sabotage his team over and over again just to be the center of attention.

Maybe when Sather signed that contract with Satan, the Oilers now have to pay 1000 years of their existence as the worst franchise in hockey.

All we know is that the Oilers organization doesn't seem to have the pride,or the brains to right their little holy canoe.

In the last three weeks: #Flames Cervenka - 4 goals (and two healthy scratches). #Oilers Hall/Eberle/Nugent-Hopkins/Gagner/Smyth - 4 goals.

I've come to the conclusion weeks ago that the Oilers are going to finish with a top 3, if not win the lottery all together. The organization is so full of fail's and fall's that the hockey god's don't know what else to do with them but hand them number 1's over and over again.

I know the Flames aren't anything great right now but at least all their attempts at failed suckage shows us that this organization at least has a backbone.

Garbage Oilers, such an embarrasment to the league. I can't believe all this top-end talent, who is used to winning and having everything come so easy for them, just rolls over and dies year after year.

It's kind of different situation to criticize the Oilers' big player for a lack of scoring. There's literally no other secondary threat on that team. You neutralize the top line, you neutralize that whole team. The game plan is clearly play their skill players close and let their plumbers fit some pipe all game.

Right now he has more in common with MA Bergeron then anything else.

I'm not too sure that I would trade Brodie straight across for him.

I can't imagine that an Oiler's season ticket holder is pleased with their last 6 home games (quarter of the home schedule this year).

0-6-0.
Outscored 22-7
Outshot by an average of 6 shots per game

Highlight being HNIC getting dominated by a Flames squad without Iginla, Bouwmeester or Kipper. I can still hear the Rexall boo's rain down.

Nice Karma for all the Oilerfan Delta Bravo's (in Yakupov jerseys, no less) dancing on the Flames grave at the Saddledome on trade deadline day.

Suck it Oilers

Not really fair to put the corpse of Ryan Smith into that list. He's been useless all season long, not just the last three weeks.
