Teams NEED to lose eventually. They need to cycle through, hit the bottom in order to start the climb back up. Otherwise they will forever be stuck in the middle, always being passed by teams that are filled with fresh, young talent.
This franchise deserves better than that and this year is their chance to do it. It's only eight-frickin-games. Do you really want to experience year 5 of missing the playoffs next year?
Thats rich.
By hoping they win is accepting being mediocre....but hoping they lose is OK.
Its flippin bizzaro world.

The rivalry was serious but mixed with a touch of friendship. After all, the team is from Alberta. Over the last few years as the Flames continued their decline I have secondarily cheered for the exciting young Oiler players. I am sure that if they make the playoffs I will attach my hopes to their success. Additionally, as much as I want a high draft pick I have been unable to cheer for a Flames loss. If we win tonight I will be pleased for the young Flames. If we lose I will keep my fingers crossed for MacKinnon.
No it was most certainly not.....ever.
It was unadulterated hate from both sides.
Which is why when i see some of these current "fans" saying they want to see the Oilers win tonight....it makes me ill.
The Oilers weren't all about clean cut skilled hockey. They were one of the dirtiest teams in the game at their height fronted by one of the biggest whiners in the game. He was both one of the greatest players the game has ever seen and one of the biggest whiners.

Interesting how a comment about fan animosity has been turned into a discussion about the teams.

Why, history is history and goes towards animosity.
When you basically said if the Oilers made the playoffs you would cheer for them. Then I vomited, you owe me a keyboard.
The Oilers are the enemy, they've been the enemy since the Flames arrived here. The Eskimos are the enemy.
Its the way of things.
It doesn't matter if they're Gretzky's Oilers, or Hall's Oilers, they are what they are . . . . The enemy.
I hope that the Oiler faithful never get a good team, because at their arrogant heights they're about 10 times worse the the Knuckle heads, you see flashes up it when they win a rare game. If they ever get a good management team and god forbid make the playoffs this board will go back to its unreadable worst like it was during the 7 years of hell.
Don't get me wrong, there are some very good and fair and smart Oiler fans on this board, and I might enjoy reading their posts, but that doesn't mean that I don't savor their suffering, just like they are savoring ours.
If the Flames aren't in the playoffs, I certainly don't want the Oilers there. I would actually prefer the Trifecta that the Canucks aren't there either.
But the best solution is for the Flames to get back to the playoffs, and quick fast and in a hurry.

I want a top five pick as much as anyone here but there is not a chance in Hades I will be rooting for a loss against the greasers or against any other team. And it is slightly astounding that those that are cheering for loses are actually chastising some folks for not cheering for loses. CP is going insane.
I for one will watch the final outcome of this season hoping for wins and some breakthroughs from our kids we have playing now.
No use getting all upset that the players who have something to prove and to get a job on the team next year try to get some wins.
Sometimes you have to accept the fates and just watch the chips fall where they may.

As for cheering for the flames to lose tonight screw that. They were embarrased by these guys a week ago. I sure haven't forgot that and I hope the players haven't either. I hope we embarrass them in their building and win 10-0.
