Maybe but being out of the playoffs for 14 straight years can't help.

I don't disagree with you and that would be a valid point, had the Flames attempted to buy him out. As it is to this discussion that point is moot. The Flames honored his contract as stated, paying out the vast majority of the contract, so I would think Kipper should hold up his end of the bargain. That's just the expectation I would have. You may disagree with it, but I don't think I should be attacked for holding that position or simply stating my disappointment in him not completing the full term of his deal.

Feaster just confirmed that the Flames were looking to move Miikka but he informed the Flames he would not accept a trade.

At that point the team had little choice but to honour his request and put the best possible spin on it.

Moving forward Team Management has to take back control of this team. Somewhere along the line the interests of individual players have been placed above those of the team.

That is not how successful franchises are built.

Oh man....I hate how Feaster gives a play by play of everything.

Why does he need to disclose Kiprusoff's personal life?

On zipping through this thread, one word comes to mind about some CPers`apparent attitudes: “ungrateful”.

Another, too, on reflection: “churlish”.

I hate how the Flames somehow managed to put a negative spin on the two best Flames in recent memory leaving to get a cup/retiring just because they can't keep their mouths shut.

And this is why we need someone like Burke to come in and take back control of this team from the top down. It doesn't have to be Burke, but it has to have a Burke like impact.

He said he wanted to remain a Flame....

Also feaster confirmed there were complications/medical issues with the birth of Oskar....he also touched on that Kiprusoff could have possibly had an extension with the leafs but Kipper didnt put money above everything in which case that left the leafs out of the deal as they didnt like the cap hit moving forward.

Man that Kipper sure is a selfish guy

It hasn't really been written anywhere...Feaster did mention it in his media address.

I'm less than pleased that the two best Flames kinda put the screws to the team, but that's how it goes.

Show me where I claimed he was. Show me where I criticised the man, not the position he was adopting.

For the record, can I put you down as being a supporter of the team putting the interest of individual players above those of the team moving forward?

If his son's health problems are serious, good for you Kipper in keeping family first. It would be selfish to uproot his family just to play 1-2 more years.

Kipper saved the Flames. Until he came along the Flames had missed the playoffs seven straight years and would have missed an eight if Sutter hadn't of traded for Kipper. He immediately turned the team around, the Flames had a Cinderella run to game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals and the rest is history. If Kipper doesn't come to the Flames they would have probably missed the playoffs for the eighth year in a row heading into the lockout. He was the only thing keeping this team from missing the playoffs after the lockout. Without him, I think it is save to say that the Flames could have missed the playoffs 16 years in a row.

Because of this, Kipper should be allowed to do whatever the hell he wants. They should build a statue of him in front of the Dome. They should rename Olympic Way, Kipprusoff Drive. His jersey should be retired. The Flames owe him for saving this franchise and making them a lot of money since the 2004 run, which they are still living off the fumes of.

I think all in all, both the Flames and Kipper look good today.

Another way to look at it is if the Flames hadn't taken a chance on Kipper, he may have been buried in the Sharks, or another team's, system, and never gotten a shot at being an NHL starter. Never had a chance to earn the Vezina. Never earned $50 million.

I believe in reciprocal relationships. If Kipper's relationship with the franchise is hardheaded, with his own and his family's interests paramount, that's perfectly fine. But then why do the Flames as an organization, and we as fans, need to be grateful, or let sentiment affect our own attitudes and decisions? If Kipper doesn't owe the franchise and fans anything (and I don't believe he does), why do the franchise and fans owe him anything?

I think it's safe to say we could play the "'what if" game all day with the Flames, or any other team for that matter.

Exactly....this situation is different than others and with all the clarification that Feaster provided, no one excpet those with a foggy view of things can have a real problem with what happened and how it happened.

The sabre rattling from those who wished the man dealt and then pidgeon holed the lack of a deal squarely on Kiprusoffs back need to take a step back and realize what actually occurred...though I suspect they wont as that takes away from the histrionics they love to exhibit so much.

Kipper can do no wrong, but if he is all about family, should have retired right after the birth if there were issues. But... say what? He still wants the $1.5M (or whatever) is owed to him for the rest of the season, even though he is not actually showing up? Interesting. He has no NMC, but won't report because "he wants to be a Flame". Awesome... but... say what? Oh, he'd report if the other team threw another 2 years and $10M his way? Interesting.
Family first my behind. Well, except in the sense that more dineros help the family...

Ummm....no actually.

It was inferred that he turned down an extension from the Leafs...but carry on with the sabre rattling.
