You know what the difference between not reporting and sitting at home and not reporting and retiring is when you still want to play? Nothing. The only way we will know is if kipper plays a single minute next year. Right now ill give him the benefit of the doubt.
|
But what would the pressure be for? A new contract, and extension and more money? Obviously he doesn't want to play for another team.
Pretty sure he'll retire and go back to Finland.

Considering the amount of times some people around here comment on the class levels of Oiler and Canuck fans, this thread is just sad.

This.
A lot of people were wondering if Kipper was even coming back at the beginning of the season, especially with his (and the teams' poor start).
The way the contract was structured, and Kipper's age, always made the last year of his deal a huge question mark.
Not surprised at all with his decision, and even happier, considering all the people that are throwing him under the bus now...

Is there a reason to doubt it? Why would we keep kipper for 10 more games? Move him for an asset. If he blocks the move because he genuinely wants to retire at seasons end fine. I can forgive that hes earned it.

Sounds like the organization is pretty pissed too. Good.
Shouldn't have been announced like that. Dude checked out before the season even began evidently.

seriously he had 1 bad season out of the last 8. Kipper's season was screwed up with not playing during the lock out and then spending 1/2 the short season injured so far. Who knows perhaps he was aware for sometime that Fester has wanted to move him.
Would you want to go balls out for your company if they wanted to get rid of you.
I'm not saying he is throwing games but he is not playing with confidence when he knows he doesn't have the support of Flames management.

Good god. Some on this forum are acting like it's their time of the month. Kipper disgraceful? For what? Not giving the Flames a 4th round pick or no name prospect that isn't going to be an impact to the team in the long term?
The guy wants to be with his newborn and wife, and is ready to retire in the very near future. One man got their priorities straight. Some of you others need to work on yours.
This is not the player nor the player action to get bent over about. Flames didn't lose much of anything and respected the wishes of the player. There is no need to keep eroding the reputation of the franchise by forcing him to leave right now.

Some pretty pathetic posters on here lately. Kipper owes us? Screwed the franchise over? Shame on him? Good lord, have the fans sunk this low?
He wants to retire a Flame good on him. He's done let him ride out in the sunset with the Flaming C on his chest. It really is no big deal, players retire all the time without being traded for 3rd or 4th round picks.

I would hope that the pro-Kipper choice people also supported the players in the lock-outs.

I can't believe this board right now. Kipper has done so much for the franchise, saved the flames in countless games and numerous highlight reel saves. Now everyone's upset because he's "being selfish". He's putting his family first, and arguably it was his plan to retire at the end of this season all along when he signed his extension.
To say that the flames are losing him for nothing is absolute bull$hit. He's given more than enough to this team, and he deserve's to play out his remaining games as a flame, and have his jersey retired.
For shame CP.

You answered your own question. He's enforcing a non existent ntc.

I am surprised. It was only yesterday he was open to a trade to Toronto and obviously talking about an extension as per hockey chatter yesterday.
Something spooked him and decided not to go through with it.
It is also surprising to me that a guy would walk away from one more year at age 36. I had no idea Kipper would retire after this season, and I doubt most people here knew it either.

Kipper has the right to retire whenever he wants - that's his prerogative. Perhaps he was open to being traded and would retire at season's end anyways and the Leafs backed out. That's a possibility.
I don't really like how he was granted a free NTC but that's more a gripe with management than Kipper.
MacDonald should get the bulk of the starts the rest of the way. He's been the better goalie

Screw Kipper? I say screw the Flames! They are the ones trying to get out of their contract with Kipper by trading him! They are the ones who asked Jarome Iginla to waive his No Trade Clause, they didn't want to honour their contract with Iginla! Absolutely disgraceful!
There, now that I have turned the tables, maybe the people slamming Kiprusoff can see how ridiculous they look.

That's right they owe him that. They can let him play here for the Flames, or trade him. If they trade him he retires and they don't owe him 1.5. Why is this so hard for people to grasp?

Who says he's "blocking" the move at all? If he's decided to retire rather than sign an extension with whatever team, then the team could just be deciding not to trade him because some 4th round pick isn't worth the PR of having him retire a Flame AND doing something nice for Kipper by not disrupting his life by being a rental.
I'm fine with that.

All Kiprusoff has done for the last 9 seasons has been the been the greatest goalie this franchise has ever seen. If he wants to play out his remaining time in Calgary before retiring in the off season, he has earned that right no-trade clause or not.

The trade deadline has driven a lot of us (including me) crazy. Things will get better after today.
