Kidding...I think.

There was a good piece on Hanowski in the Herald.

St. Cloud is beating Notre Dame right now 4-0 and Hanowski has 1G 1A. Agostino had 2 points yesterday in his teams win. These college kids can't be as bad as people make it to be.

They are not "bad", but they only project to be 3rd/4th line players at the NHL level. They are a dime a dozen.

It's kinda funny how these two aren't good prospects but their college linemates who are undrafted are highly touted UFAs teams should try to sign.

They are both rated 7.0C on Hockey's Future (just one opinion, and not a very good one IMO - Howse is 7 and Brossoit is 6.5, but whatever).

Other Flames rated 7: Ferland, Granlund and Howse and they are all 7.0Ds

With the addition of these two, the Flames now have 10 prospects that are rated 7.0 or higher: Baertschi, Gaudreau (8.0), Reinhart, Jankowski (7.5), Gillies, and the 5 mentioned above at 7.0.

Just saying, and I am not a big of of HF, but that's where they have them.

More directly, I like that Hanowski is a 6.2 RW.

These guys aren't studs, but they are prospects.

Can't wait to see Roman Horak, Sven up with the big club taking regular shifts and getting some much needed NHL experience. Good to see the the college kids playing well, still a long road to the NHL but hopefully they are given every opportunity.

Thats the key for sure is OPPORTUNITY. I think the Flames have always did off-season signings of older vets that took away from having young guys get an opportunity.

How much college hockey do you really think McGuire watches? It's a pretty full time job to cover the NHL. Bob McKenzie said on the Jay and Dan podcast that his research for the draft is basically done by cramming for a week or two before draft day. I doubt McGuire is much different.
PMM, I trust you to be a better scout and person than the real Pierre McGuire. The real one is a bitter little man who takes an opportunity to bad mouth other GMs any chance he gets so he can get them fired and apply for their job. He was bad mouthing Bergevin after he got the Habs job and I'm pretty sure he's smelling an opportunity here with the Flames and has been taking shots at Feaster and Weisbrod for months now (although it has been warranted but he makes it sound personal).

He's a terrible judge of talent, because he falls way too in love with certain players and develops too much of a hate for others. He has no objectivity which would make him a terrible scout.

Kind of an ominous tweet from Gord Miller:
Gord Miller ‏@GMillerTSN 1h When a player contacts a friend/former teammate and urges him to accept a trade so they can play together, it's...tampering.

Gord Miller ‏@GMillerTSN 50m
Wasn't referring to a specific case by the way, just a friendly reminder with the trade deadline approaching.

Crosby calling Iginla about Pittsburgh considered tampering....

Would that be tampering though?

Crosby doesn't speak for the organization, he's just a player

That is kind of a weird thing to say without referring to some specific case.

Did Crosby do that? If so what are the repurcussions?

I wonder if Chiarelli filed a complaint with the league.

So... let's file for tampering then, shall we?

Someone posted that Crosby called Iginla and told him to come to Pittsburgh instead of Boston. I have no idea if it is true or not.

If the league considers it tampering, then Pittsburgh would have to surrender assets to the teams that were harmed by it. The assets would be determined by the NHL. Since it is the golden child of the NHL, I can't see the NHL doing anything about it though even if it was true.

On TSN the day after the trade there was the following direct interchange between he and reporters
Quote:
Q) Sid have you talked to Iggy yet?

A) No, I have not.

Q) You didn't talk to him this morning? Or text him?

A) No, I haven't talked to him at any point.

Q) There was some talk you might have had a hand in suggesting this trade to Pens management?

A) (laughs) no, no one asked me anything. I think it's great but it had absolutely nothing to do with me.
The video should still be on TSN's website. It's an 8 min scrum with Crosby talking about the Iginla trade and recent Pens moves.

Not saying he didn't talk to Iggy, but if he did he's smart enough to deny it.

I would say that it is most likely not true. Like Iginla needs an invitation to make up his mind.

I also doubt there would be any way of proving it short of getting a warrant for their phone records which would never happen.
