What would change in 5 days was the Penguins having more pressure to get the player they wanted on their team before the deadline.
The Penguins were risking not getting Iginla in the deal.
And unless Iginla is a liar the Flames had other options with other teams.

Secondary prospects if we're lucky. Would not be surprised if we never hear anything about either of these guys again.

Another possible way this played out
- Boston and Calgary agree on the deal
- Bs make the 1st conditional
- Feaster goes to Iggy and say the 1st is conditional, do you think there's a good chance you re-sign there.
- Iggy says no, or says I want to test the market, or says I plan on coming back to the west for family reasons, something like that
- Feaster now knows the chances of the conditional 1st becoming a 1st are slim, so moves on to Pitt who will include a first without conditions.
I actually think that's precisely how it may have gone.

And to this I'll say - have you ever watched them at all?
Why can't people just admit what they don't know.
I don't know these players at all. I don't know if they will make it or not.
So I'm not going to proclaim they are likely NHLers or say we'll "never hear from them again".

The Flames only had the options Iginla said they had, and he chose the Penguins. End of story.
And the Penguins weren't desperate. The Flames were.

Regarding the return, I looked back to what LA received for trading a 35 year old Gretzky to STL as a rental. Patrice Tardif, Roman Vopat, Craig Johnson a 5th and a 1st rounder the following year.

So when people thought it was Boston we should have known the return would be minimal because Iginla isn't the same player as before but now that he chose Pittsburgh over Boston the rules of the game changed and Feaster got fleeced because Iginla put him in a bad situation.

That makes sense. I hope though, if that was the case, that Feaster would have went back to Boston and said that we were taking the Pittsburgh offer unless they made the 1st unconditional. It's just hard to imagine that it would be a deal breaker for the Bruins.

But the internet doesn't say they're going to be the next Gretzky like it did for Rob Schremp so really they should probably just not bother reporting to Calgary and find an east coast beer league. In fact, my team could probably find room for them.

I think he choose the Penguins at that time. Again does he chose the Penguins if the Flames say they do not like the offer?
If they say we like the offers from LA and Boston does Iginla say nope I want only Pittsburgh. If that was the case then it puts them in a tough spot but it sounds like they said that they liked all 3 offers, Pittsburgh included, and in my view saying that the Pittsburgh offer was acceptable was a bad decision.
i also think there would have been more pressure on Pittsburgh than you do but we will never know without being in the room of each team I guess.

Check the TV schedule before you buy Center Ice. Most of their games have been on the NHL network and blacked out on Center Ice so far this year, at least in the US.

That very well might have happened. It still does not excuse the GM from getting a better return from Pitt.

Why wouldn't you? Not a lot of HOF's that ahve been traded in similar situations to compare with. It's actually a pretty apt comparison, two dominant guys on the downside of their careers.
