For me, today is about peace and not happiness. Even though I knew this was coming I cannot feel happy. Even if the return was better than we all expected I could not feel happy, we lost Jarome and it hurts...a lot. I can however feel a sense of peace. The Flames are moving on and a new page will be turned in the history of the franchise, I feel peace in that. There is peace in knowing that Jarome is going to place were he wants to be, were he has a chance to fulfill his dreams. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel happy about this, maybe when Jarome hoists the cup above his head, maybe then. Oh captain, my captain I’m sorry that we couldn’t reach the top of the mountain here, with you leading us to submit. It hurts to know that I will never get a chance to see that. Together we can came close but we never reached the top, I’m sorry for that.

Like what? Honestly - that seems to me to be a throw-away comment a day after an emotional day.

I am filled with so much damn mixed emotion. Happy for iggy with a legitimate shot at the cup this year. Sad that the return is pretty damn "meh". Former 3rd, 5th rounder and the 30th pick was not how I expected this to go down, but realize the negotiation is tough when the other gm knows the player will only waive to come to his team.
As a flames fan, I expect the flames to make many more trades before this deadline, and God forbid, maybe even win a trade somehow.

We had no leverage.
From what Feaster said yesterday, the Flames instigated trade talks not Iginla so you can't blame Iginla for choosing the team he wanted to join. In this case its a better than getting nothing.
Its not a great return, but its something and its signals a turning of the page in a franchise that has needed one for 3-4 years.

And Francis is on. CLICK. Fan 960 off.
Time to go out and get some food, and then wait for the presser on TSN.

I know Iggy didnt score this goal, but he created it. It is still my favorite Iggy moment I witnessed live in the dome. Thanks Jarome! You mean the world to this city.

Well hey, if you want to have a discussion to rehash things like the ROR deal, Cammalleri, Wideman and Hudler signings, going into an NHL season with 2 centres, be my guest. The awful direction we've been in the last 2.5 years?
Oh, and riding an old team to a slow, painful ending.
But don't for a second think that you can post something like this and seriously think that Jay Feaster has no responsibility in this matter.

My heart feels empty...
Honestly the Flames are the only crappy team I support, but hey, I'll never abandon them. We need some SERIOUS help...

Would really love to see Iggy walking into the dressing room to meet Crosby and the rest of the team. I hope they get it on video.

Iginla wasn't going to sign an extension.
I think Feaster probably had a better deal on the table earlier from Pittsburgh, but, I am glad they actually traded FOR a top 60 draft pick.
I was really unsure about whether Calgary would get a draft pick back at all. Even a late 1st is worth it to mercifully have two picks in the top 30.

So... just to get a head start on it, anybody feel like doing a play-by-play of the Iginla presser for those of us who will be at work this morning?
I'm betting that no tears means he's coming back in the summer. Tears means we don't see him with the Flames for another 3-4 years, if ever.

This is a brutal, brutal trade. The Boston one was just as bad - if the first rounder hadn't been conditional, then it'd have been passable. But this one? A pick that will likely be 25th overall or worse, and two prospects who, if you're lucky, MIGHT play a role the NHL. You'd actually be doing pretty well if either one of them did. Why do this deal now? Was it going to go away if you waited until Wednesday and took the interim time to explore other options? I don't think so. Possibly drive the price up by another pick by delaying? It couldn't hurt to at least try.
This is just brutal for the biggest asset available at the deadline.

The direction is not Feaster's fault- that start's with Edwards and Murray.
When the team was in the process of missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season it should have been blown up- but ownership wanted to keep trying to push for 8th place.
The mistakes of this team started with the Phaneuf trade and have continued until now and in my opinion Feaster is the smallest part of the blame.
D.Sutter, King, and Edwards all carry the brunt of why this team is so bad now, and why we are now looking at a less than ideal return for this Franchises best player over the last two decades.

I look at the otherside of the coin, by doing this deal now you get to have the time to trade other assets away instead of having to deal with the Iginla trade at the deadline. Plus there is no guarantee that teams would sit around and wait for Iginla, and then you lose him for nothing.

Eric Francis: I think up until a week ago Murray Edwards thought Jarome Iginla would retire as a Calgary Flame.
