There is no way Ward should be fired for this. He's an "insider" and was given what he thought to be inside information.

Should whoever started the Iggy to the B's thread get banned?

Just silly....

yes he should be canned on the spot and maybe some of these idiots from all networks will actually do their jobs correctly instead of always trying to be first.
If Damien Cox doesn't get fired for rushing to state Pat Burns had died without getting confirmation from even a single official source, Aaron Ward won't for not having a clue about the trustworthiness of his sources.

What we have really learned today is that Ward has no legit sources in either Calgary or Boston.

I say fire him but not because he reported the trade wrong, I just don't like him as an analyst.

but he has such nice hair.....anywyas, i think there is a lot of pressure on these guys to get scoops and to be honest we don't really know what happened behind closed doors....he made a mistake, nobody died - it is just hockey, i can move on.

I bet Bob is chuckling today. You could see the look on his face when Ward came back in and said it was OK to report the trade to Boston now. Bob kind of look like, WITF is AAron Ward and how did he break this.

TSN is going to be really careful now with their breaking news now. I know I'll question breaking info from TSN, going forward.

hahahaha!! I actually mentioned this on Iginla trade thread last night. I was wondering what will happen if Iggy got traded to Penguins instead of Aaron Ward's confirmation of the trade to Boston. Man, there goes Ward's credibility out the windows. I can just see Sportsnet people snickering right now and calling him a fool.

Fired? No.

He made a mistake. No big deal. I really don't think anyone besides Flames fans, and maybe a few Boston fans even care.

Outside of this TSN is usually way more conservative about confirming trades than other guys.

Sportsnet seems to require little more than a players dog as confirmation.

IIRC, pretty much all of the major media companies reiterated to their personalities that multiple confirmations are required before going to print after the Pat Burns fiasco. Ward apparently had that, but got burned by unreliable sources.

I'd say chances are Aaron Ward gets put back on training wheels after this. He won't be allowed to break anything until either MacKenzie or Dreger can confirm it.

No absolutely not fired.

But isn't this a little unprecedented?

TSN ran the story, didn't they even get reaction from Boston?

News stations and sports columnists had stories either close to published or already so.

Bob McKenzie even took to Twitter to apologize to their audience.

I wonder if it all snowballed from Ward, or if multiple sources thought it was done.

The whole thing these days is a gong show. Twitter doesn't help, people here are absolutely flipping out about a deal that didn't take place (the conditional pick)...it was a fiasco from a media point of view. Professional outlets shouldn't be so quick to peddle rumours as news. Hopefully the learned a bit of a lesson from it.

While we're at it, I want TSN graphics department fired as well since they still use their old graphics template in combination with their (slowly phased in) new graphics template.

I think the deal to the Bruins was agreed upon...except Iggy had not officially waived his no trade clause to go there.

Did the moron who tweeted Pat Burns was dead (when he wasn't) get fired? That's way worse than Ward getting punk'd by his Bruins insiders.

If this happened multiple times, sure. Honestly though it looked like what Ward said was pretty much true up to the last minute. The Pens deal seem to come in right then out of nowhere.

Ward was wrong to state it as if it were fact, but mistakes happen sometimes, especially now since media is all about up to second, post now, verify later scheme.

Also, it's time to fire George Johnson and the Herald staff for publishing the story with the Bruins trade last night as official. I'd take any reason to pound Johnson out the door.

I love when TSN gets knocked off their high horse and has egg on their face.

Don't fire Ward but don't let him break trades.

It was crazy watching this situation unfold.

It begs the question: Would you rather be the first person to report something with the chance of being wrong, but if you're right you're "the guy" who broke it or would you rather report the correct information without being first?
