It's all posturing.

Why would you be afraid that the asking price is high? Isn't that a good sign?

I agree. Feaster should start much lower so he doesn't look greedy.

I like the idea of getting a proven player back in Bernier, but I'm a little gun shy on trading for goalies. I might be a little more prone to trading him for a scorer on the cusp of breaking in (like a Spooner) than a goalie, but that's just me. I probably have a lot of goalie baggage from the Flames that sways that though, because it seems like every one of our tendys we have signed, traded or drafted (save Kipper) has been a disaster.
Boston's 1st, Spooner, and another decent prospect (or their second rounder?) probably does it for me.

The quote suggests that the asking price is to high. In my opinion that is a negative as it will turn several teams off completely an d not even allow the negotiation to begin.
Asking alot is great news. Asking more than the economy warrants is a dangerous game that Feaster has no businesss playing.

Only if teams are somehow compelled to meet the Flames' demands. If they all balk, then the Flames get nothing for Iginla. And maybe he still walks as a UFA in the summer.

And yet you would also be complaining if the price was any lower.
You act as if GMs don't bargain.

I think it's a fair demand going into these discussions. Steep price? Sure. But you always start discussions with high demands, and let's not forget that PIT forked out a promising prospect (who was considered to be somewhat untouchable) for a third-liner like Morrow ... plus, if Friedman's claims are true that Iginla doesn't want to be a rental but actually wants an extension with his new team, I don't think it's unfair/unrealistic to ask for that.

I just don't see any value in bringing in a goalie using our higher end tadeing chips.
Even if Ramo doesn't come over next year, who cares, sign a journey man goalie as our starter and really plunge to the bottom with a purpose.
We have several goalies in the pipeline, hell we can even give Irving a 1 year contract and really stink with him and Taylor.
But Bernier as a primary piece in a trade is a waste unless the prospect is something special.
the Flames need to address specific needs, and that's a young skilled center with size, more physical toughness and depending on which blueliner stays a good 2 way pointman.
Goalie should be at the bottom of the list.

I am sure that GM's bargain but feel that starting out with a resonable expectation and allowing the interest of multiple teams to drive up the price is a smarter decision.
At this point the Flames are not in the greatest of spots, the team flat out sucks and there is a real chance that we get jack squat for the best player to ever play for the franchise. IF a list truely has been provided it certainly does not put Feaster and Co in the driver seat. Every GM on the list will be fully aware that there is a list and who else is on it. Feaster is a weak GM and the longer this goes the weaker his position becomes.

That's the other way to do it - generate lots of interest with a moderate pitch and then let those interested parties bid each other up. Start too high and you run the risk of the few teams interested simply shrugging and going after a plan B. None of these teams have to trade for Iginla.

If he goes to Van I will personally lead the lynch mob. I don't care WHAT the return is.
My hatred for the Canucks runs deep, and borders on irrational (actually, it doesn't border, it IS irrational). I would probably give up my season tickets if they traded him there.
I had thoughts of going Tonya Harding when the Canucks went to the cup. I'd lose my mind if they did it with Iginla.

I predict my inner man-boy is not going to handle this well.
They have to do it though. Have to. If he has submitted a list or even said he is thinking about waiving and for management to bring his agent potential deals he is saying not to subtley that he will not be re-signing this summer. If we lose him for nothing, that would be worse.

Not only would it suck to see Iginla in Vancouver, they don't even have any assets that really perk the interest. It's the worst of the rumoured destinations in multiple ways.

oh, don't underestimate the needs. The Bruins desperately need a scoring winger, no doubt about it. Horton has 1 goal in 13 games, Lucic has only 4 goals this season. They'll be screwed if they stand pat and those guys don't pick it up.

Iginla could sign with the Canucks in a matter of months any how.
If the Flames are looking to trade him..... he should be moved to the team who will provide the best package.
If its the Canucks.... great take the package and run.

Anyone think Boston would part with Dougie Hamilton straight up for Iggy?
I'd assume we'd have to throw in a 3th round pick or something as well?
