Derek Smith looked like an ass out there.

Smith was not good tonight.

Oh, and on the 4th goal, several people were lamenting Gio's play but Gio covered the first guy - unfortunately there was another guy uncovered because the 2 forwards that were back had already turned away from teh play. I don't think you can blame Gio when he is left to cover 2 guys

The Flames team defence is very bad. How many games have they won this season scoring 2 or 3 goals?

Exactly what does Hartley think he is going to get from Cervenka when he plays him on the 4th line?

is it just me or do the linesman jump in super quick when iginla fights. Sure they would still be picking up pieces of eakin, but he kind of deserves it.

I don't think Hartley sees anything in Roman.

I don't think it would matter were they put Cervenka tonight. Flames biggest problem tonight, as in most nights, is the forwards not helping back in their own zone. Cervenka is by far the worst on this team for defensive play.

Yeah. I think we can conclude that Cervenka is a colossal failure or at best not a player the Flames thought they were getting.

Very bad scouting of the KHL.

But I think the FAN (was it Maher) reported that they hadn't won a game without scoring at least 4 goals

Up Tempo Hockey. Only wins games when scoring four goals. Okay now I understand.

Yeah Stajan should have taken the guy with the puck out of commission.

All those "little things" are about commitment and mental toughness.

Yes, the D and goalies have struggled as well, but the commitment and focus of most of the forwards is certainly not good enough when the other team has the puck or it is up for grabs.

5 of their wins in game where opponent scored two or less.

But its what the boys wanted after suffering through Sutters dreary defensive coaching last year. they got what they wanted and aren't doing squat with it. I mean the offensive up tempo hockey that Hartley teaches.

Fully agree. Not to take anything away from Matt Stajan becuase he has been great, but when he is your best forward commitment wise on both ends of the ice, your in trouble.

There is a balance. It is good that 5 are involved on the attack. It is good the they are trying to support the puck better and have more players active in the offensive zone. Still need to shoot the puck more and make better decisions at both blue lines.

It is bad that they don't have 5 committed to defence when they lose the puck.
They are paying for it in the standings.
