As good as Gillies has been, there are goalies in the NCAA with stupid-good numbers. Gillies is 16th in GAA, 9th in SVP and 2nd in SOs
 |
If you want to measure Gillies against the whole of NCAA (and not just Hockey East) then I think you'd have to measure Subban against the whole of the CHL and not just the OHL. He still comes out impressive but he's 6th (or 7th depending on how liberal you set the min. GP requirement) in sv% by that standard.

They're both having really really good years. Statistically they're so close that if you want to grade one over the other I think you have to make an environment judgement NCAA Division I - Hockey East vs. CHL - OHL. That's absent any scouting assessments. I can't tell you whose better by having seen them because I've seen them both play to few games

Well it's obvious, in 10 years Jankowski and Gillies will be the best 2 players from the 2012 draft.

Not that I want to keep adding about Gillies in the Jankowski thread, but apparently Patrick Roy was courting Gillies in the hopes he would sign on his team. Gillies decided to go the NCAA route. I thought that was kind of neat to know.

Gillies actually had backed out of a commitment to Northeastern University after their starter came back for another year and had seriously considered going to the Ramparts (Roy's team). He ended up at Providence at the end, but it's an interesting path he took.

Not much info to conclude anything and that only after 9 months.
Not to mention, lets not be hypocrites here. Bash THN if they rank us low but be happy when they rank us good.

I personally wouldn't take their rating seriously regardless of where they have us ranked. That entire publication is a joke now, oh how the mighty have fallen.

Great work by Jankowski: Steals the puck, goes up ice, killer pass in offensive zone and then finishes.

On the goal where UNH ties it up, the colour guy says "and we have a 1-1 ball game"

Jankowski looks like he's filling out. At the moment his stature reminds me of our last true #1 Center... #25... Joe Nieuwendyk!!

that's exactly what I saw

He is a big body at 18, playing against 20 and 21 year old d-men. I can't wait until next year to see whether he can be dominant (I expect he will be)

Still looks fairly skinny. He needs to squat like no one has squatted before and build up them legs. Look at Kopitar, etc. basically can't be knocked down. Starts with the legs and obviously Mark et al. know this, but add like 30 lbs to them legs and make tree trucks. I lied, add 40lbs of muscle to them legs.
