Thought the episode was great. The Meryl-Darryl exchange was great, and then the big action scene at the end was pretty intense.
I didn't have a problem with the shooting, the ease in which they've been shooting zombies and other people in the past, is the real unrealistic part. I guess the two together kinda doesn't make sense, but the problems they had this episode makes more sense than the ease they've been having previously.
The acting between Rick and Hershel was pretty good too.
EDIT: I shoulda seen them about to kill off creepy inmate guy the way they were building him up all episode.

It's definitely different shooting shuffling zombies that don't shoot back than exchanging gun fire.

They knew Rick was outside, they fired on him right away. Hershal gave away his position during their heart to heart

Must've missed that, seemed to me that he had a fair amount of time to line Martinez up in the crosshairs and didn't, just took some pot shots at him and that's when Martinez returned fire. Rick had already walked back into the woods when Axel was killed I thought.

I was just warming up to the prison dude and then boom.....bullet to the head and a worthy body shield. At the end of the day I'm just glad that gunner at the tower finally got shot. Kind of ridiculous how long he was up there uncovered without being hit by one of the hundred or so bullets fired in his direction.

Getting ambushed with 3 different positions firing on you, would be way different. If Maggie takes 1/2 a second to line up tower person, for all she knows it wold be all the time for the governer needs to line her up. Total chaos.
Think about it... You're standing there all relaxed, then all of a sudden people around you are dying and bullets are coming from everywhere. I think it's more far fetched that someone never #### themselves....
|
I would accept these points if they didn't just spend the winter on the road in a heightened sense of readiness. They would have had numerous situations when they would be relaxed and had to "spring into action". They are used to snapping into the part of their brain that deals with "fighting". Also, hiding behind a thin metal cabinet is useless. From that range a round will cut through it like a hot knife through butter.
Much Daradon I just want some consistency in gun play. I actually think all the gun play should be like the prison ambush, however, they have already set a standard of marksmanship.
Also, it doesn't matter if you are ambushed or a planned attack. Once bullets start to fly the pucker factor hits 11, trust me on that.
This won't make me stop watching, but it seems lazy on the part of the show.

The real plot hole is how they got into the guard tower...hopefully that will be explained next week.

I just assumed the guy climbed, or cut a hole in the fence by the tower. Then went in the tower door, and climbed to the top using the stairs inside.
IMO some of you obsess about the little details too much haha.

It's a small detail, but I hope the guy in the tower plays a roll in next week's episode. That really isn't something that they can just wash over. I could see it playing into the episode in one or two ways.
1) The group can't really come back to Woodbury minus someone and say it was just a supply run... Well thet can, but still it's clear that there was a pretty big gun fight and even though Andrea seams to be pretty dense, there's no way she'll ignore that lie...
Then again she seam to have ignored the whole "head in fish tanks" thing.
2) The group will figure out how he got in and look at it... or maybe not as they'll be trying to clear out the zombies inside the gate and repair things.

I doubt you will hear or see of him/her again.

I can live with Rick going a bit nuts as he's gone through a lot with his wife and best friend but I could do without the Maggie/Glenn drama. Honestly they went from almost being raped/dead to both being unharmed and where normal people would he thanking the lord for their good fortune they are both acting like complete idiots. I realize that it's probably tailored to the females in the audience but it sucks none the less.

There wasn't enough people to guard that prison so it's not totally improbable that someone could sneak up the tower. They were all in the cell except for Rick at one point. They're not exactly diligent on keeping watch.
Glen even said "Who's on watch?".

Was the person driving the zombie-bus with the Governor? or was that some random that just happened to crash the gates at the same time?

I am going with governor, unless UPS has taken to zombie delivery.

Ya that's what I thought while watching the episode. However a co-worker disagrees and figured it was some random that we will soon meet

That was totally the Governor. He had a big #### eating grin on his face when he heard the panel van coming. He even said as much, that he wanted to kill everyone at the prison and then let the walkers take it over again.
I would imagine he went to the "screamer pits" picked up some fresh, hungry zombies and delivered them to the prison.

Doesn't help that the manufactured Glenn/Maggie drama leaves them shorthanded. They are preparing to be invaded and Glenn just takes off and nobody mentions it may be best at this time to have everyone available to defend? He went from wanting to go himself to assassinate the governor to leaving his group to be attacked by said Governor. I don't know about most people but if I hated a man that much I would be preparing day and night for his arrival not cruising around. I love the show but the writing is pretty sloppy at times.

Meh I'll cut him some slack on the number of R's in the guy's name.
Here's my problem with that assault. What was the governor so goddamned HAPPY about? He seemed so smug. Yet the raid was an absolute disaster.
The Governor had superior firepower. He had better soldiers - props to Carl, but he's 11 years old and all. He had a man infiltrate his enemy's base. He had a guy in an elevated firing position. His enemy was unprepared, scattered, and mostly in the open, not to mention one of them seems to be hallucinating and another is missing a leg. Yet the final count? One enemy dead and one of his own as well. That's brutal. If I were him I'd be pissed; how does that guy in the tower not kill three of them within the first 10 seconds?
