My guess is That a trade involving Jones(for a draft pick) has already been worked out but the team taking him would be sending him to the minors. I think this was the case with Karlsson. Once he clears you can trade him and the team on the other end does not have to place him on waivers again.

Feaster should have traded Jackman last season when the Sharks were asking for him..

Should've traded him after he scored 10 goals at the deadline the year before.

@SUNGilbertson: #Flames coach Bob Hartley on Blair Jones: “We need more. We need more, it's as simple as this.”

At very least not seemingly felt sorry for causing him stress that day, and inked him to an extension as a result.

so Jones gets waived because they need more of him, but Comeau somehow gets a promotion to the top line for being his usual mediocre self? Headscratcher. Absolutely shocking.

Comeau is on a line with Iginla and Glencross because he's defensively competent. It's a way for Hartley to spread out the defensive competence a bit. Iginla/Glencross line hasn't been the top one for a couple of games, so it's not a major promotion for Comeau. He just went from third tier to second tier.

This is borderline insulting to the fanbase. You're short on C and inexplicably waive one of the natural C on the roster? At minimum a detailed explanation is in order and not 'we need more' half-cocked soundbites.

Translation: We thought we could get something for you and free a roster spot. Feaster and I miscalculated and were wrong, so now we're putting you in the doghouse publicly to cover our miscalculation.

If it was simply wanting more from the guy, say that when you put him on.That's what Brent did previous years. I suspect Hartley's tune would be different on him if he got picked up.

But then he says this,

Quote:
"It's a great challenge for Blake Comeau because he's worked very hard since the start of the year," Hartley explained. "I feel that he's very responsible on the ice. He wants to learn the game in the three zones, on both sides of the puck.
"We want to build on players like Blake Comeau. He's a solid competitor for us and I think it's a nice challenge for him."
Okay Bob good luck with that..

I think we are reading too much into this. It's just Blair jones he isn't that good, we can replace him easily.

As opposed to Comeau, who's a superstar. So many plays die on his stick, we could replace him with a garbage bag in the middle of the ice.

Why did we sign him to a 2 year extension then? We are supposed to be getting rid of marginal players not locking them up!

I think the thought are here is "he isn't that good" is still better than "can't take an NHL shift." What the Flames have left on the farm isn't good, so why lose a body?

It really shows the new emphasis on puck skill and offensive intelligence. No more guys like Olli!
